Can't download DMG files with mozilla
When I try to download a .dmg file from a website, instead of the file going to my download folder - I get a new tab opening with a bunch of code/characters. This does not happen with Safari, Chrome or Internet Explorer.
What can I do to fix this - or is this something on the web developer's end. If its on the web developer's end - what do they need to do?
Thanks!
Ted

Does it do it for all DMG files you download, or only that particular site? Note that, while not a great workaround, when the DMG file opens in a new tab, select that tab and then:
- File > Save Page As (or
> Save Page) (Hotkey: Command + S)
- Select a folder you want to save the file to
You can try resetting all of your Application handling preferences for Firefox:
- Open your profile folder.
- If you don't know where it is, in Firefox, go to the about:support page by typing it in your address bar, or going to:
- Help (or
>
) > Troubleshooting Information.
- Help (or
- Click the "Show Folder" button.
- If you don't know where it is, in Firefox, go to the about:support page by typing it in your address bar, or going to:
- Make sure that Firefox is closed - Click the menu button
> Exit
.
- Delete or rename the mimetypes.rdf file.
Open Firefox and try downloading the DMG file again.

Hello,
Can you try opening the context menu for the link and selecting "Save link as"?
You may also want to double check your settings to see how Firefox handles DMG files:
- Edit (or
) > Preferences > Applications
- Scroll to DMG files, make sure it is set to "Always Ask"
I can't find DMG files in the list of Applications....
