how to get adobe flash to show up as a plug in, it is on my computer but doesnt work or show up in firefox

I have the latest adobe flash downloaded on my computer. but it doesnt show up as an available plug in on firefox. when I go to sites that require flash they say flash isnt loaded. I dont have the problem when using chrome or ie can you help? I read related post but didnt see an answer.

Having more than one version of a program may cause issues.

IE uses the ActiveX version of Flash. Firefox needs the Plugin version.
