How do I synchronize Desktop and latop calendars?
I use IMAP servers for email, I can sychronize LastPass passwords - how can I do the same for the Thunderbird calendar?

I use Google Calendar, synchronized via CalDav. Most users appear to use the Provider For Google Calendar add-on. Google is very convenient if you also use Android, since support is built in to Android.
I also use a calendar provided by one of my email providers, also via CalDav.
Lightning knows CalDav, but your chosen online calendar may not.
Another option that works for me is to have a calendar ics file on Dropbox. This is not a true synchronization, because it doesn't update in real time, and if two users were to make changes to the calendar at the same time, it's uncertain as to which would end up in the calendar. This approach is fine between multiple instances of Thunderbird/Lightning, but doesn't translate well to other platforms.

Just a point for clarity. since I had a big discussion in another thread and this was the point of confusion. The default calendar in Lightning is the Home calendar. It is a local calendar and anything added to it is not shared with other devices. You can add several calendars to Lightning. They can be an additional local calendar or a network calendar as Zenos is describing with gmail. Any event you want to add on one device and be displayed on other devices must be added to one of the network calendars. Here are some images of my Lightning setup. Gmail is my only network calendar. All others are local to Lightning.

I tried to download Lightning because its screen says it is compatible with TB v 52.* but TB won't let me download and install it 'because it has not been verified'.
Who does what next? If I understand thngs correctly, with Lightning my calendars on desktop and laptop would be synchronized - am I right?

Thunderbird doesn't talk about verification. That suggests you were trying,, unintentionally, to install it into Firefox.
Lightning is included with the download for Thunderbird now. I'd check if it is already installed but perhaps disabled.
Go to Tools|Add-ons|Extensions and check if Lightning is listed. If not, use the search feature on that Extensions page to get Lightning.
I went to Tools/Addons/Extensions and searched relevance/extensions/windows and got 12 results but none to do with calendar synchronization .
Go to add on page Click extension Type lightning in the search box Install
Thanks for the suggestion.
I've tried every filter variation for a Windows extension to search for Lightning calendar with no result; many extensions found are to do with sales force management or other aspects.
