option to 'restore tabs and windows from last time' - doesn't work!

The 'tabs' absence is resolvable (by saving pages one by one in bookmarks) - but I have found no solution for remembering open windows. Are there plans afoot to replace this (fantastic!) feature in Firefox4, or how can I revert to an older version of Firefox?

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

Delete sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).

See:

Start Firefox in Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.
Use "File > Exit" or "Firefox > Exit" if you want to restore multiple windows.
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default about:home Home page.

Another possibility is to use:

Thanks - but no progress. My previous version(s) of Firefox did, as you say, save all tabs and windows automatically - but no more :(

Yes, I have tried following the Restore Previous Session path, but the option in the drop down menu is in pale type (inactive) and it makes no difference how many tabs or windows I had open before.

Also, the Restore Previous Session button does not show on my home page (or the Firefox default, Google page).

So.... my experience of Firefox4 seems quite different to yours :( Do you think I should remove the programme and reinstall? Or is it more likely a conflict with something else on my computer?

Make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode.

Make sure that you do not use Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox.

No luck - not using Private Browsing and have not Cleared History for some weeks/months (i.e. before I moved to Firefox4).
