how to set up thunderbird for calendar only
I would like to use the calendar in Thunderbird but I don't need anything else right now. How can I bypass the email set to just install the calendar?

I don't know of a way to do what you want.
You can create a dummy email account ( email that does not exist ) : Example none@null.none and then use manual config. Once the dummy account is created, you can simply delete it. You'll end up with only a local account that can not be deleted. You can now add your calendar(s) to your thunderbird
