Office.com requires me to download a file that requires scripting and says I don't have that capability presently. I'm advised to go into my Firefox page and request "enable JavaScript". When I do so, I'm presented with a page that has a button to click on for installing Javascript but, when I select it, nothing happens. Please help.

It is enabled by default but: Go to this page in a new url: about:config

  1. In the address bar, type "about:config" (with no quotes), and press Enter.
  2. Click "I'll be careful, I promise"
  3. In the search bar, search for "javascript.enabled" (with no quotes).
  4. Right click the result named "javascript.enabled" and click "Toggle". JavaScript should now say true.

To Re-enable JavaScript, repeat these steps.

Add-ons

You can alternatively install an add-on that lets you disable JavaScript, such as

  • No-Script (to disable JavaScript on a per page basis, as required)
  • QuickJava (to easily disable and enable JavaScript, automatic loading of images, and other content)
  • SettingSanity (adds back removed options for JavaScript, Advanced JavaScript Settings, loading images, and showing the Tab Bar)

Thank you and I hope this helps!

JavaScript is built-in and enabled by default. If it isn't working then you may have an extension blocking it.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
