Firefox hangs when quitting - more info on this problem

  1. I have more information on this. Symantec Antivirus causes Firefox to quit very slowly. It eventually quits, but it seems to take several minutes to do so. During this time, the error message "Firefox is already running, but not responding." appears, and Firefox won't start. I switched from Symantec to AVG and the problem went away.

    Without knowing anything else about your problem, or attempting to research it, my first suggestion would be that you

    1. ensure that any Anti Virus software is fully updated.
    2. look at whether anything else is, bundled with it ?
      (There could be a delay in getting bundled applications/binaries to work with new Firefox versions) If so just use the basic AV & any firewall.

    Interactions between certain Internet security software (firewall, anti-virus software) is reported to cause hangs on some systems. You can try to configure your firewall to see if it helps the hang go away.
