But there are other popular clicks and searches regarding problems with Facebook chat and the inability to post comments. So maybe it would be good to create an article specifically for facebook searches, that covered facebook-specific issues.

The only article that appears in search results is [[Firefox never finishes loading certain websites]], which has a facebook tag. I've just added a facebook tag to [[Websites say cookies are blocked]]. If there any other articles that apply to facebook, please tag them!

Maybe something with Flash? Facebook has a couple little Flash things, I think for chat?
Not a bad idea. We would want:
* Clear cookies/cache (I actually made a content block for this, '''clearCookiesCache''', but haven't added it to [[Dynamic Content]] yet)
* javascript:
** Turn off NoScript
** Check your security program for script blocking
** Make sure JavaScript is on
* Link to [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]], maybe something other than NoScript is mucking with things

Oddly enough, even one Italian user reporting the problem states that this doesn't occur in safe-mode.
Do you know if the new JavaScript engine gets disabled in safe-mode?
I ask this because I seem to remember that safe mode only affects addons.
Bye
Simone
Hello,
I wish to point your attention on this problem

that leads to this bug

*I considered adding something about this to the SUMO Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode article but thought that it might be too "advanced" for your typical Firefox user so I didn't.
''Do you know if the new JavaScript engine gets disabled in safe-mode? ''
'''Simone''',
I recently updated [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode] to add:
<blockquote>Starting in Firefox 3.5, the new Just-in-time (JIT) JavaScript compiler is also disabled." *
'''Related bug reports'''
* [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453642 Bug 453642 - Safe mode should disable JIT] (Fixed in Firefox 3.5)
* [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478846 Bug 478846 - Safe mode should not disable JIT]</blockquote>
(See also the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Talk:Safe_Mode#Just-in-time_.28JIT.29_JavaScript_compiler article's discussion page].)
*I considered adding something about this to the SUMO [[Safe Mode]] article but thought that it might be too "advanced" for your typical Firefox user so I didn't.
'''P.S'''. Safe Mode only disables JIT, not the entire JavaScript engine.
From [https://developer.mozilla.org/En/New_in_JavaScript_1.8.1]
"JavaScript 1.8.1 is a modest update syntactically to JavaScript; the main change in this release is the addition of the [https://developer.mozilla.org/En/SpiderMonkey/Internals/Tracing_JIT Tracemonkey just-in-time compiler], which improves performance."
From [http://blog.mozilla.com/security/2009/07/14/critical-javascript-vulnerability-in-firefox-35/]
"Note that disabling the JIT will result in decreased JavaScript performance"
That is, we currently assume if you have a problem that doesn't manifest itself in Safe Mode, it's either your theme, extensions, or localstore.rdf.
There was a comment in one of the Cookies articles that facebook is a source of "enable cookies" errors.
Interesting... are JIT problems common enough that we would want to add this note to [[Basic troubleshooting]] and [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]?

Bo, we could as well not have a reference in articles, but IMHO the essential is that everyone of the people giving support should be aware of this fact - that's why I posted here.
I think we could also have a reference.

Probably need to add in "scan for malware," given the Vundo and related infections' interactions.
I dashed off a draft of this: [[Problems using Facebook in Firefox]]. Still needs proofreading and such.
Facebook was down for many users last night - I suspect we'll get searches for that even though it's not a Firefox issue.
Otherwise, this is the usual litany of troubleshooting:
# Check your connection for firewall-ness
# Clear cookies/cache
# Check cookie settings / blocked cookies
# Check for JavaScript settings / blocked scripts
# Try [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
# [[Ask a question]]
Probably need to add in "scan for malware," given the Vundo and related infections' interactions.
We see a lot of threads/posts like "page isn't redirecting properly" when trying to access Facebook applications.
I'm not sure what the cause of that issue is as I can't remember having seen someone answering that they solved it.

'''cor-el,'''
That link doesn't work for me ( but [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/1/461504] works).
The redirect error is apparently a Facebook problem. I googled the error and found this:
Facebook redirect loop problem
.... which links to
[http://bugs.developers.facebook.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6600]
(see [http://bugs.developers.facebook.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6600#c30 Comment #30] and [http://bugs.developers.facebook.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6600#c39 Comment #39] for workarounds)
^ That link is a challenge:it does only work if you access this thread in the 'old' way to make https://support.mozilla.com the root.
These are all cached separately by the slave servers:
https://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?comments_parentId=454959&forumId=3
http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?comments_parentId=454959&forumId=3

https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/3/454959
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/3/454959
---
In the new way you can use the thread number alone [454959], but probably can't specify a forum to override the current forum if you use relative links without a protocol.
So relative links are highly dependable on how you enter a forum thread (old style or new style).
Testing:

[/en-US/forum/1/461504] (mmm. works in boths)

I would mention the redirect loop Facebook bug in the new article and direct people to [http://www.facebook.com/board.php?uid=2352557895 the Facebook forum]*, where the topic [http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=2352557895&topic=3449 "The page isn't redirecting properly''] is currently first on the list.
'''* Edit:'''
Bo, That forum is actually a subset of Facebook forums, for Flickr, so I would just link to the [http://bugs.developers.facebook.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6600 Facebook bug report], or else refer people to the [http://www.facebook.com/help.php Facebook Help Center] instead, where I found this: [http://www.facebook.com/help/question.php?id=245020] '''''everytime i want to go into one of my apps, a message pops up saying "redirect loop" what is that?'''''
You might also add an X-ref to [[The page is not redirecting properly]] article (I've already added a facebook tag to it).
I also had trouble accessing the sites Orkut and Facebook. I followed every step of the tutorial but don't worked. I solved the problem including the sites in "Exceptions" and selecting the option "Permit".

Hello, I bump this article 'cos recently one of our users reported this problem:
Firefox crashes while the Facebook chat is open. It happens randomly, sometimes upon opening the chat, sometimes when I'm using it.
Our friend Liz (Italian forum moderator), searching the web for a solution, found that some users solved the problem disabling the QuickTime plugin.
She simply suggested to close Firefox and upgrade QuickTime to the latest version. The problem was solved.
This is worth trying with users reporting this problem.
Is there anyone who dealt with users experiencing this issue?
Bye
