SUMO community discussions

Bringing SUMO and Firefox desktop closer (continued discussion from June's Community Call)

  1. Hey folks,

We just had a really interesting discussion in the community call about what's possible to do with the capability that we have now in SUMO with regard to the technology behind the migration wizard in this article.

In short, with the migration wizard project, we now have the capability to do more in terms of modifying Firefox desktop settings directly from SUMO.

One of the cool opportunities that we talked about during the call was to capture crash report ID for the forum. This will help us reduce step to actually ask the impacted user to share their crash report manually in the forum.

Do you have other thoughts and ideas? Let's share and discuss them here. (:

  2. Historically, we've told people that Sync isn't a reliable service to use as a backup, as opposed to real-time exchange between installations. It seems that has changed but could someone close the loop on the issue:

Note: that will reach its six month expiration in less than a week.

  3. I will pick that up as I agree that the issue is getting a bit boring, but I fear that the solution may not be one that the average user can implement.

  4. I have checked in with the Sync team and the response is still very much that Sync is not designed as a backup. There is some new content I think we can add to the common response (I will get a revision done soon), but the core message is unchanged.

One concern I have about this new functionality in Kitsune - looks like much time and effort has been spent on this, but there are still many outstanding issues that we are waiting on fixes for a long time. When are these likely to be looked at?

Here is the related common response but I don't see any changes were made: Forum Response - Sync not a backup service
