I have relied heavily on the "Open message in conversation" function, because it gave me a tree of messages across all folders (Inbox, Sent, etc.) that was based on the person I was corresponding with.
Now, the function is giving me a tree based on the Subject of the message. This behavior makes it useless to me. I've looked, and I can't find any configuration setting that would control this option.
How can I once again get a message tree based on the correspondent's name, then sorted next by date?
Thanks!

Opening a link in email with control key now switches to browser (Firefox). Previously, pressing the control key when opening a link did not switch to browser. This is handy for opening multiple links in an email without switching to browser each time. Is there a setting somewhere to restore the previous behavior?

In Thunderbird, the "Play a Sound" feature has quit. I changed from 'Use the following sound file' to 'Default system sound for new mail' and back again. That didn't work. I tried changing the file in 'Use the following sound file'. That didn't fix it. I restarted Thunderbird and it was the same. I don't want to uninstall and re-install. Is there a fix?

As long as I've used TB, which is many years now, I've had no complaints. I have absolutely no desire to change to a different program.
That being said, I'm at wits' end with the recent issue of Notification Sound Alerts (NSA) upon delivery of a new message. Simply stated, beginning about 6 or 8 months ago, the NSA seem to simply work whenever they want to. I can go a month or two at a time and receive the NSA, and then suddenly one day, NSA will stop functioning on its own. This "pause," we'll call it, will last 4 or 5 months, then then suddenly begin to work again.
I have attempted every imaginable fix as recommended in this forum. There's no need to list them all, because I've made every suggested adjustment that's been recommended. But there's no rhyme or reason to why the NSA will work as programed for a period, and then decide on its own to stop working.
I don't know if this is a glitch in TB that is simply beyond my feeble attempts to rectify, or if any other TB users are experiencing the same issue. I have even gone so far as to attempt to find an Add-On that will supplement the NSA. However, none that I have uncovered, particularly those suggested in this Forum, seem to be compatible with either the version of TB or Windows 10. I understand that Win 10 is not longer supported in the forum, but please! I do not want to migrate years of email files to another program. I want to use TB but simply need to be "Alerted" when new messages hit the Inbox.
Any assistance or suggestions (except those basic adjustments that proliferate the forum, i.e insure the sound mixer is not muted, etc, etc) would be greatly appreciated and thanks for listening.

At first the inbox went empty and then when I closed T-bird and reopened it had put in 100 emails from 2023! And then fortunately I found the 'inbox' name had moved way down in the left panel under 'local folders' and still had all my current emails. Can I drag the 'inbox' in the panel back up under my current address where it usually resides? All this happened after I sent 2 photos off my phone to my gmail account to my email address. I prefer to do my emails on my desktop, on Windows 11. Bitdefender says I am safe. I cannot find what version of Thunderbird I have. I typed in 'Thunderbird App menu help' in the search bar on my desktop with no help found. I do not know how to do the 3 lines icon. Pressing the alt key or F10 did nothing. I looked in all the T-bird settings to no avail. So I typed in the 140.8 version just so you would at least get this query. I have no idea what version I have. Very frustrating! Thank you.
