Can not access web site with FireFox

All of a sudden I could not access our local electronic paper with FireFox. As it turn out the problem was caused by my virus protection software had the "Ad Blocker" turned on. When I turned the option off then I could access the paper. I called customer service and they evidently had done something with ads, but the person I was talking with could not tell me what it was. There suggestion was to use a browser that did not block ads regardless of the setting of my virus protection software. I do not understand how a browser can override the setting in my virus protection software.

My question is does FireFox have an option to turn off an ad blocker for a given URL?
