Sometimes a Banner with the Letter A of V appears on a web page, see attached example. Is this an attempt to make use of a plug-in that failed. Which plug in.? Certain sites such as www.capradio.org report having problems with firefox, but I have seen this on other sites also.

The A and V are part of the Flash Control extension. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/flash-control/?src=ss

From About this Add-on on that page:

Q6: What do those "play button" icons mean? A6: "f" represents Flash video; "V" represents HTML5 video; "A" represents HTML5 audio; "V+" represents HTML5 Mediasource video; " A+" represents HTML5 Mediasource audio;

Click the "play button" to play the file that is blocked from auto-running.

It may be from your own software. Please post a full screen shot of the page.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
