Does it work better if you disable the modal prompt temporarily as a test by setting the prompts.tab_modal.enabled to false on the about:config page?

According to the pages linked to the crash ID, there is a bug report on this.

Does the crash occur as soon as you run those two lines of code, or after dismissing the alert()?

If this is your application, why are you running script commands after calling window.close()? Could you avoid the problem by using an approach like this:

window.setTimeout(function(){opener.alert('test'},250); window.close();

The crash occurs after dismissing the alert();.

It's an application that I'm maintaining and it's some prehistoric code about 5 years old and it worked till now. Thanks for suggestion though.

Yes that solves the crash.

I hope they fix this bug.

jscher2000 your aproach doesn't work either. If you set the timeout to long the alert doesn't show up, if you set to 5 msec it's the same effect as before and the browser crashes after closing the alert.

Hi majtimaus, thank you for testing. Sounds as though it would be best to let the owner window handle its own alerts, but how to do it?
