I like the platform but am frustrated that my inbound emails and inboxes are only retrieved every 15 minutes for it to check and synch? Can it be set up for immediate reveal of new messages and account synching?

You can enable the push service which will deliver new emails immediately from desired folders. See guide: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/configure-push-email-thunderbird-android
