How do I install a new copy of Thunderbird, without my old accounts?

I messed up Thunderbird by trying to change my e-mail account from a POP account to an IMAP account. I now have 2 accounts with the same name and I can't get rid of one; when I click on the settings Thunderbird says "an account with this name already exists, please enter a new name". I don't know which account is POP or IMAP. I tried uninstalling Thunderbird and reinstalling it but it comes up with all my old accounts. I have backed up my e-mails on Mozbackup so I don't think I will lose any e-mails. Is there a way of installing Thunderbird without all my old accounts?

Delete (or preferably move or rename) your old profile.
