I want a confirmation prompt after clicking "Send"

When sending an email using the keyboard shortcut, the settings tell me that I can set TB to give me a confirmation prompt. Why can't I get a confirmation prompt when using the Send button? Is there any way to make TB do that?

I set TB to run a spell check before sending, and that gives me an opportunity to cancel the Send operation. But it only works if the email contains a misspelling.

Thank you.

Are you talking about the send later shortcut perhaps?

Send now is Ctrl+Enter and send later is Ctrl+Shift+Enter

There is no button for send later as such, but send becomes a send later button if you place Thunderbird in offline mode. (click the ((0)) at the bottom of the main screen on the left.)

No, I'm just talking about the Send button in the upper-left corner of the Write window, which causes the email to be sent immediately. I sometimes click it by accident. Once I do, I can't stop it from going. In fact, this is such a huge problem that with important emails, I add an X to the address so that the email won't go if I accidentally click on it, as follows: abcdefg.comx

It seems reasonable that I should be able to confirm the sending of an email, but the program doesn't seem to have such an option.

Thank you. Which one do you suggest that I install? I want the one that is easiest to use.

I didn't know that TB accepted add-ons.

I haven't used them, so I suggest trying each one, one at a time.

Thank you, but one of the add-ons is totally clunky, and the other is not compatible with my version of Thunderbird.

You might achieve the same or similar check with add-ons like Correct Identity or Identity Chooser.

What do they do?

What I did was I set TB to do a spell check before sending, but if there are no misspelled words in the email, it doesn't pause and give me a chance to cancel the Send.

You're using v115? Update to at least v128 and Check and Send will work.

I didn't know I was so far behind on my upgrades. However, how many of my add-ons will be broken, and how much of the program will have changed, if I upgrade to version 128? That's always the problem with Mozilla programs. Upgrading often means I like the program less.

TB seems to be telling me that the latest version is 115.10.1. It's asking me if I want to upgrade to that. I don't see any mention of 128.

Okay, I just upgraded and it took me to 116.

I don't think that add-on will work with 116. What add-ons do you have? I can check them to see if they work on 128. 115 and 128 look very much the same.

What I don't understand is why I updated TB and it updated me to 116 but not 128 (assuming that 128 is the current version).

I've started to search through the add-ons myself just to see what I can find.

Check spelling during composition instead?

No, that won't help. Thanks.

What happens if you check for updates now?

Ah, I see what's happening. It is upgrading me incrementally. Okay, I have just gotten to version 128. It looks pretty normal, so maybe it won't cause me problems. Let me try installing that other add-on that required version 128.

Okay, the "check and send" add-on seems to be just what I want -- quick and simple! Checking the recipients in the recipient fields is perfect. If I accidentally click Send by mistake, it allows me to simply cancel.

This is the first time I upgraded to a much higher version of TB and it didn't break any of my add-on programs.

Thank you all for your help!

Wow, that "Check and Send" add-on has a whole lot of options. The problem is, I don't understand a lot of them.

Given the current ESR version is 140 and the release version is 143. It is little wonder your addons work. The authors have had in excess of a year to make them compatible since V128 was released. It is months since V140ESR was released.
