When I open a new tab and type a URL, Firefox ignores me and refreshes the tab instead; I then have to type the URL again. How do I fix this?

I just installed Firefox 8 and this behaviour is new to the upgrade. I've checked my installed extensions against the list of problematic extensions, and I have none of them (no search bars, no AVG, etc). I have already restarted in safe mode and additionally used the reset toolbars and controls option.

This has not corrected the issue.

Solución elegida

Further troubleshooting caused it to seem related to tab mix plus. I upgraded to the current development version of that and the problem seems to have abated.
