I am running Thunderbird 115.5.0 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 22.04.

I have two accounts with email MS - one with Hotmail, and the other with Outlook.

Both continue to receive emails without issue.

Recently, neither can send emails - having been able to send emails for years.

They had different SMTP servers, so I checked to see if I was using the correct server, and both appear as being correct.

I tried adding one account (again) to ensure TB would select the correct server, ... and it still cannot send emails, but still receives emails.

I have tried both with oAuth for the password, but that has stopped working.

I can find nothing online, and feel like I have exhausted the internet for solutions, so if anyone can help, it would be most appreciated, as I am sure others will be as frustrated.

Many thanks,

The Subject column is so annoying that if I can't find a way to hide it I am going to have to change back to Outlook, even though it is unstable.

I also do not want to see the "Select columns to display". We used to be able to right click on the title which makes more sense that taking up space with this button. All I want to see are 2 columns "From" and "Date". Your designers need to remember that cleaner is better. Unnecessary info needs to go.

For about 20 years, I have had my own domain, and for about 15 years I have used TB. I have recently switched my email from Plusnet to Gmail. With Plusnet, outgoing emails showed my domain name ("jdoe@mydomain.com") and so replies came to the same place. All very convenient, and when I changed email providers I didn't have to give all my correspondents a new address.

However, when I send emails now, the sender's address is showing as my Gmail address, although the return address is correctly showing my domain name. Is it possible to set up TB so that my domain name is used for the sender's address?

Hello.

I've read some articles about the way Thunderbird works with GMail IMAP folders. If I understand well, TB creates a copy of every GMail messages for each assigned label. This means that if a message has 3 labels, TB will copy it 3 times. According to Google storage status, I have about 12 GB for my mails. If multiple copy of messages are done depending on assigned labels (all messages, sent messages, about 20 custom labels, and so on), does it mean that I'd need 50 or 60 GB or more to synchronize my GMail account ?

Thanks for your help.

Regards.

A year ago a user had a problem in using an email alias. (See "Changing the FROM to show my identity and not my imap address in outgoing mail.") Recent changes have caused many servers to put up new restrictions. Gmail has started rejecting emails if the domain is not certified by the server. I have been using an alias email address for more than 20 years from the domain acm.org (Association for Computing Machinery). The ACM does not have an outgoing server. This had never been a problem until recently. But with the Gmail change, I had to (I hope temporarily) use my acm.org address as the REPLY TO. The user who wrote last year did not like the REPLY TO solution either. One suggested solution was to have the alias be an alternative address at gmail. The problem the user had then, which I have also experienced, is that even though you specify the alternative address in the TB FROM field, the FROM address that appears when the message is received is the gmail address. Also, although Google will let you sign in through a browser to your gmail account with the alternative address, it does not accept the alternative when you specify in the outgoing server specs in TB. The solution proposed to the user last was to use the outgoing server of the domain he/she was trying to send from. That won't work for me because the domain of my email address does not have an outgoing server. Furthermore, my current primary provider, IONOS, has imposed a new restriction starting in the middle of January that the address specified in your SMTP setting must match the domain of the address you are sending from. I thought the gmail alternative address might work, but no. Unless someone has a better idea, I may be stuck with REPLY TO.

Hello Everyone,

I have TB 115.9.0. Windows 7.

1. Since the first Supernova release, TB crashes 3-4 times a day. I have a vague sense that it happens when TB is not the main "focus" for some period of time. It frequently happens when I log in after having previously "locked" the Windows workstation.

On most of the updates, I review the update info. Maybe I have missed it, but I have never seen any mention of work on discovering the cause of, and solving, the crashes.

2. Since the first Supernova release, TB does not mark a message as "read" after opening it and reading it. It is necessary to manually mark it read.

Mostly I am just reporting my experience with TB, in case that is useful to anyone.

Best regards to all.

Thank you.
