I followed [guide] to move my Thunderbird profile from my old computer with Windows 10 to my new computer with Windows 11, but it is showing up as an empty window with no emails or folders/accounts. It also doesn't show my tabs/session. If I try to write a message, there is no "from" email address. I do get email notifications though, and I saw in Gmail that my forwarding filter worked as well. There is no error message or anything. I tried starting it in Troubleshoot Mode, but the same thing happens, except that the background color is different. I attached a screenshot of it in Troubleshoot Mode. Could this problem be due to Windows 11? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Finally! I successfully migrated from Eudora 7, but I had to use TB 17.  Where do I go from here?

I'm running a Mac (10.12.6) with different flavors of Windows in different Parallels VM's, and in order to keep my Eudora install safe I did the conversion on a Win 10 32-bit VM on my creaky old MacBookPro which is disconnected from my network.

So now I want to get a current version of TB running with my newly minted TB data on my primary desktop computer. Typically I am concurrently running the following Parallels VM's: Win 7 32-bit, Win 10 32-bit and Win 10 64-bit.

Makes no difference to me which VM I start with, I just don't know how to get from TB17 on my laptop to TB95(?) on one of my desktop VM's.

Hi All,

I know that the first answer to this is going to be "ask your RMM provider" but...

I use Datto RMM and they have an integration that can install and keep TB up to date with the latest patches. I have TB installed in a stock system image that I use (v60 something I think) for one particular customer.

Unbeknownst to me, for the past few weeks RMM has been complaining that the downloaded TB installer "did not pass verification checks for its digital signature." and it had been failing to install updates. I'm still trying to find out exactly what that means, I understand what I says, but not why it didn't pass.

Up to this point it was identifying the currently installed version as "Mozilla Thunderbird (x86 en-US)" without giving a specific version number. I assume it was pulling this info from windows directly although I'm not sure and will ask Datto support.

From the RMM logs I see that a couple of days ago it stopped complaining about the digital signature and "upgraded" using the installer from https://download.mozilla.org/?product=thunderbird-91.8.1-SSL&os=win&lang=en-US.

The following day, it started reporting that the installed version was "Currently installed: Mozilla Thunderbird 38.5.0 (x86 en-US)" and I started getting support calls as "all of my email has vanished".

Uninstalling 38.5.0 and re-installing with a cleanly downloaded copy of 91.8.1 resolves the issue.

So, can anyone shed any light on what might have been going on here. Has there been a problem with the code signing cert?, was this a supply chain attack?, did someone accidentally upload a 7 year old build of the installer?

I think my problem is resolved but I would really like to be able to work out what the heck happened.

Anyone got any insight?

Hello,

Whilst helping a friend recover data after she killed her laptop, my Windows 10 will no longer boot.

I have tried the steps in various posts to move my profile to another TB installation without success. The version number on the crashed machine is 68.7.

Can anybody suggest how to recover my email? The only thing I can see when I move the profile is some of my email account names, but none of my local folders.

I hope to fix the crashed PC, but I need access to my past email.

I need help importing Outlook 2007 data into the current version Thunderbird. I was able to import the data into Thunderbird Version 31.8 but when I go to Help | About Thunderbird it says it's the current version and there is no upgrade to current link.

I copied all the files from the V31.8 profile to the v91.8.1 profile. I then deleted Thunderbird installations, installed v91.8.1 and launched. TB launched and has been trying to do something for the past several hours.

Thoughts?

Trouble Moving the Thunderbird Profile to another Mac drive

I have a MacPro which runs three different OSes. I want to boot to any of them and be completely current with my email, so the goal is to locate the Thunderbird Profile to a neutral, non-boot drive that is always available. I have an internal drive in one of my drive bays that is perfect for this. I tried to follow the directions for changing the "profiles.ini" file on my current boot volume, but even with that done, it still makes a new folder. I just want Thunderbird to quit referencing the old location and start referencing the new one. I thought I had updated the "profiles.ini" properly, and, having deleted the actual profile folder within the Profiles folder inside it, it still wanted to create a new one with all the default stuff empty. So it obviously was not looking to the Profile folder I had copied earlier to the neutral drive, even though I put the path in the .ini file and changed the path under [Profile0] and set IsRelative to 0. Should I also have changed the path to the [Install712DAF5A23ABECDC] portion of this .ini file to the new one and unlocked it?

Is there a way to ALSO have the "profiles.ini" file and all the apparatus around it on the neutral volume so that EACH version of Thunderbird, no matter which OS is currently booted, accesses this info from there?

I wish this kind of instruction was explained better.

I guess this could be considered "migration"... How can I sync the email between different machines, as & when I switch to use of a different installation of Thunderbird?

Here's my current setup: I have 2 laptops, and each is set up as a dual-boot with both Windows 10 Pro, and AntiX Linux. That makes a total of 4 operating systems, and I have Thunderbird installed on all 4.

I'm not sure how useful this is, for framing an answer to my question re. syncing, but here's extra info: I keep all my personal data on encrypted external hard drives, which I access using VeraCrypt. External is so I never lose my data if a given machine dies. Encrypted is so, even if the physical external hard drive is stolen, they can't steal the personal data. (I maintain a cloned backup external drive.) Today, I chose a location on the primary external hard drive, and created a folder named "Thunderbird email". I'm using the AntiX v19.4 OS right now, so I've set that new folder as the Local Folders location within this installation of Thunderbird.

I got this far, and then realized I need some guidance from more experienced users. So, I located this support page, and signed up for asking my questions about Thunderbird. Thanks in advance, for any help you can give me.

Good Evening, I had to reinstall Windows 10. My computer repairman installed Thunderbird along with much of my software. Since the reinstall I cannot Upgrade to Thunderbird 91.8.1. The auto update fails and the re-install does not upgrade to the new version. I have downloaded the new version many times and it still stays with the old version after the re-install. A couple times Thunderbird said I had the new version after I re-installed Thunderbird, but after restarting Thunderbird it goes back to the old (91.7.0) version.

Should I delete Thunderbird before I try to install? If I do will I loose all of my E-mail and folder information?

I would appreciate any advice. Thank you, Terry Prather [removed email from public]

I upgraded to a new computer. When I did, I saved the old C drive and transferred it to the new computer. When I installed Thunderbird, it downloaded all of the emails that I've received since I built the new computer but all of the old emails and folders are gone. Can I retrieve them? I' certain I stored them on the old computer. There's probably a folder in the old C drive files. What is the procedure to retrieve the old emails and folders?

Thanks in advance for your help. FWIW, I did make a contribution/

I experienced a problem with Thunderbird suddenly not recognizing my password. Kept giving me a notice that said my password/account had been "blacklisted". I've never seen that in 20 years. I called my local internet company, Comcast.net for help. He walked me through deleting and re-installing several times before it dawned on me that Bitdefender (anti-virus software) might somehow be blocking my password. I turned off VPN and unchecked all the boxes at Bitdefender. And I could suddenly reinstall Thunderbird e-mail addresses. HOWEVER, all the folders, which I think were stored locally (on my laptop) are gone. I had lots of stuff I use on a daily basis in those folders. How do I get them back? Can I get the back? My server is IMAP but I don't know if they were stored online or on my laptop. Somebody help me, please?

I just installed Thunderbird 91.8.1 and would like to migrate pst files generated by Outlook 2010.

It somewhat works - if I do "Tools --> Import --> Mail --> Next" and select Outlook, Thunderbird starts importing apparently all the pst files that are present on the PC, without allowing which ones to import to be explicitly specified.

Is there a way to specify which specific pst files are to be imported?
