A few days ago emails with attachments (pdf, jpeg), and of various sizes, stopped sending (timed out). The problem appears to only exist when I send from my desktop, not using webmail. All had been working fine prior to a few days ago. Emails without attachments send fine. Incoming emails (with and without attachments are also fine). I have had several discussions with my internet service provider who claim there is no issue at their end. I have checked my account/server settings in Thunderbird and all seems correct there. I'm using the POP mail server, if that is relevant. Any thoughts or suggestions welcome. Not being able to send emails with attachments if a major impediment.

As stated in the subject, Thunderbird Beta will not close properly, leaves 4 remnant tasks in the Windows 11 task manager that I have to close manually before I can open the program again. This started with this last beta, prior one worked properly. Please advise on what further information I can provide so this bug can be fixed.

Hi:

I'm a longtime ubuntu (lubuntu, actually) user, and upgrading LTS versions every 2 years has been pretty easy til now: all I had to do was copy my .thunderbird folder to the home directory of the new system.

When I do that now for the pre-release version of lubuntu 24.04,, the new Thunderbird requires setting up the new profile from scratch, which is a pain, since I use T-bird for multiple accounts.

Is there an easier way of migrating my emails from my old profile to the new system?

Thanks!

Bill

Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To use Thunderbird, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, restart your device, or use a different profile.

I'm using Thunderbird 115.7.0 (64 bits). Cannot send messages from my email account: katy.vandenhoek@gmail.com. It says it cannot make connection to server smtp.gmail.com. Receiving emails is OK. The other emailaccounts are working OK. Looks like there is something wrong with the authentification. Reïnstalling Thunderbird didn't help.

I had a crash on my desktop PC, possibly due to an erroneous action of mine, which occurred on December 20th, which has ended with my PC, which after entering the password, the screen locks to black.

I turned to my laptop as a salvation, but when I tried to open my email, for which I use Mozilla Thunderbird, at first I opened the home page, but my email accounts did not appear. Currently, it doesn't even open that page when you tap on that desktop icon.

I'm an 80-year-old male and I'm getting more and more clumsy with the SW of the PC, so I pray that if you can help me it's in a language for the very clumsy in computer matters. I don't speak English so this is automatically translated, so I would appreciate it if you could help me in Spanish to restore my email accounts, since I am no longer used to using Web mail.

My PC is an HP Pavilion x360 -14-cd0018ns, I5 core 8th Gen. / W10 home/ HD ext. 3TB for data.

Thanks a lot. PLOK.

When Thunderbird is set to synchronize from an iCloud contact CardDAV, it is unable to show the photos for the contact. I am using TB 115 on Windows (problem is platform independent).

Steps to reproduce
  1. Have an Apple ID. Use iCloud contact's web UI to create a contact and upload a photo for them.
  2. Get an app password for the Apple ID.
  3. Add iCloud contact as a CardDAV address book in TB. Should use https://contacts.icloud.com/contacts/ as the carddav location. The actual carddav URL I got is something like https://p123-contacts.icloud.com/12345678901/carddavhome/card/. (not a real link)
  4. Sync the address book. The photo would not display correctly.
My investigation

Apple's carddav API server returns in its vcard a HTTP URL as its PHOTO field, like:

PHOTO;VALUE=URI:https://gateway.icloud.com/contacts/12345678901/ck/card/123
 456789abcd12345678abcd1234567

(not a real url; you can export the vcard if you have done the above reproducing steps) However, this URL cannot be directly accessed (would return 401 saying "Missing X-APPLE-WEBAUTH-USER cookie"; see e.g. this github issue). However, the cookie is not really needed; I can use HTTP basic auth with the same credential for the carddav server (in this case it's the apple app password, yourappleid@apple.com:1234-abcd-5678-dcba).

Potential fix

The current implementation directly puts the carddav photo URI into an HTML img tag. I think Thunderbird can make an AJAX request to fetch the image with the credentials and then put the result into an img tag.

An update to Thunderbird has somehow removed all my inbox sub folders and all remaining messages in my inbox are blank, ie. there is no message body showing for any of my messages.

I tried right button clicking on one of my account's inbox folders and going to properties, repair folder and all my inbox messages for that account prior to about a week ago were removed.

My profile folder still shows as being approx 13Gb in size so hopefully everything is still there. Somehow everything seems to be pretty messed up. About Thunderbird shows I'm running 115.5.2 with a button below to update to 115.6.1.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix this?

Hello, Everything was working well until Thunderbird updated to version 115. Now I get the "Login to server failed notice. I believe I have tried everything. I read all the help topics on the Thunderbird site, scoured google and youtube, and tried everything short of just moving to Outlook or something else. I even tried to revert back to an earlier version v102 but got the same failed notice. My Thunderbird program is stored on my Windows PC. I don't use an email client like gmail or outlook. Any help would be much appreciated. I'm running 3 email accounts and if I can't get this to work I'll probably have to switch all the email accounts. Thanks very much for your help.
