Mail server pop.verizon.net responded: [SYS/TEMP] Server error - Please try again later.) I have tried creating a new password on the server account and restarting thunderbird with the new password . Did not help. Any Suggestions?

Hi. A few weeks ago I had a Thunderbird-is-already-running type message, and couldn't launch Thunderbird. I consulted these forums, and (as suggested) deleted the parentlock file. That got me into Thunderbird, but all Local Folders were missing from my Local Folders list.

I consulted these forums, and (as suggested) deleted .msf files from the Local Folders folder (with Thunderbird closed). I restarted. These files did not regenerated, and the Local Folders are still inaccessible.

I can use the Thunderbird client to search for messages in the Local Folders. I can see these messages, but they cannot be opened.

Each individual Local Folder file seems to be there in the Local Folders folder. I appear to have only one profile.

I would really appreciate your help in reinstating the "missing" Local Folders, which contain (guess what) important e-mails. I've no technical expertise (any longer), so would need really clear instructions to follow.

Big thanks.

Using TB v91.5.1 on Windows 10 x-64. I have several mail accounts, one of which is for a hotmail.com address. This has been working fine for years, but over the past couple of days, I don't seem to be able to send emails form this account. I can receive them fine, but when I try to send, I get the small pop-up telling me it's sending the message, and the progress bar is at 100%, but it doesn't send the message, it just sits there.

I looked in the error console, but nothing was added when I tried sending.

You can see my server settings for the account in the attached image.

Any ideas? Please let me know if there is any other info you need.

Thanks

I have Thunderbird installed on two computers.

On one of the computers, emails being held in my inbox are being automatically removed after two weeks (this is not a desirable action, I am loosing important emails), but on the other computer that is configured exactly the same, emails remain in the inbox indefinitely (which is desired).

Both computers are POP and both configured to run the same email account and appear to have all of the same configurations and settings. I saw someone had posted the same problem a while ago and the reply indicated it may be that the ISP or email provider has their settings set to delete emails as per the two week window, but as I can assure you this is not the case, it is a configuration issue with one of the Thunderbird installations, otherwise both of my computers would be deleting the emails while that is not the case.

Thanks,

Good day, I am using Thunderbird with my Office 365 e-mail account. I like pretty much the appearance of Thunderbird, as it is not so crowded as Outlook. Unfortunately very frequently it is "Not responding" and the screen freeze for few seconds. Should wait untill returns to normal condition itself, to continue my job. I did not found any topics into help about that problem and any solutions. With Outlook I do not have the problem described above, but prefer to use Thunderbird. Kindly ask you for any advices, if available. Many thanks in advance!

Thunderbird asked to compact folders saying it would save hundreds of MBs of disk space, I accidently clicked "compact now" instead of just ignoring it as I usually do. As a result, Thunderbird deleted all mail on my Inbox folder - after restarting Thunderbird, my inbox was empty, I also checked the mail folder on my file explorer and the "Inbox" file (no extension) was just a few KBs, whereas previously to Thunderbird deleting it was several MBs. There were no errors reported during the "compact" process.

I don't think I can recover the mail that Thunderbird deleted because the mail server does not seem to keep mail older than 12 months. One of the reasons I used Thunderbird was to be able to keep a local copy of older emails.

The pop-up I received was the one shown in this article by Mozilla: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/compacting-folders

The article explicitly says "compact" does not delete mail, but then explains that it actually does (by not moving mail "moved or marked as deleted" to the a new file, and deleting the old file). I had no such "marked as deleted" mail. It was just plain read mail on my Inbox folder.

This is an Office 365 POP account. Thunderbird's retention policy for the Inbox folder was to use my (Thunderbird) account's policy, which was to never delete any mail. Alas, when I hit "compact now", Thunderbird deleted all my mail. I was running Thunderbird 91.6.1 on Windows 10.

I tried making a backup of all Thunderbird related folders and deleting the "popstate" file to download all mail from the server again. Mail got downloaded, but not all - as I mentioned, the mail server only returns 12 month worth of email, whereas I had years of mail stored locally. I don't see any way of recovering it... Why would Thunderbird just delete all mail calling it "compact"? Makes no sense...

Outgoing mail stalls. The blue line goes across from left to far right and then stops. A "message sent" does not appear. I have waited for 30 minutes and the stall persists, even with a short test message. I turned off my antivirus (Bitdefender) and firewall. Incoming mail is fine.

I have another computer that works well for both in and out mail. Both computers use the same ISP (Netfirms) and have identical outgoing server settings, except for the email address.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

I have over 200,000 emails on a gmail account I'm hoping to sync with Thunderbird. My goal is to have them all downloaded onto a local server on my computer so I can refer to them all offline. I've been periodically pressings "get messages" which used to download messages 1000 at a time (I'm not sure why it doesn't continually sync with my inbox!) Though, sometimes it would download 2-3 at a time which was frustrating and fairly futile. Now, it's stopped downloading entirely. How do I keep syncing my inbox?

Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again.

I have tried everything suggested on this forum and other online help sites. One source suggested trying to ping my email server, and that failed as well. I tried temporarily reducing the TLS to 1.1,but that didn't help. I tried temporarily disabling my Windows antivirus and firewall, but that didn't work. I am at a loss on how to proceed, and am planning to take my desktop to a local computer repair shop to see if they can figure it out. Can you suggest anything that might help? Thanks very much!

Google's depreciating "Normal password" authentication method and I am forced to switch to OAuth2. In Account settings I switch authentication method to OAuth2. Popup window appears asking me to fill my email, which is correctly filled, I click Next and I get the error message from the screenshot. Thing is if I start a fresh profile, I can add gmail account with OAuth2 just fine. I have cookies on and normal password removed from password manager for the account. Any idea if setting something in my profile can solve this?

I am trying to insert an image file into a signature but it appears as a blank box in messages.

I've looked at a number of responses to people with similar problems, and I've tried the File > New Message route but no luck.

The image file is stored locally, I have tried writing the signature text as HTML and inserting the code, and have also created an HTML file and tried that way. When that file opens in a browser, the graphic appears perfectly.

This problem has been raised many times. For each of them, the thread has been archived. I have a solution which I haven't seen described (none of the ones I have seen works for me): 1. Create a new profile according to the instruction under Starting the Profile Manager here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-multiple-profiles. 2. Go to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\ and locate the folder which contains the folders ImapMail and Mail. If there are more than one, select the one with the latest dates for those folders. 3. Copy ImapMail, Mail and all the single files in that same folder to the folder with new profile you just created. Start Thunderbird in the usual manner. It will identify the necessary settings automatically.

Also I think you should have managed to get rid of this rerererecurring problem by now.

Hi!

I often send an email to 140 recipients via SMTP. Until recently it took 2-3 seconds. Now it takes about 2 minutes. My web-hosting company Simply.com is very insistent that their server is not the problem. I use TB 91.7.0 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS. I am not sure whether TB updated itself when the problem started. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Recently, a weird problem developed on my Thunderbird. I can delete maybe 7 or 8 emails, and suddenly nothing else will delete. I can press the delete button and nothing happens. The only resolution is closing Thunderbird and reopening.

I have followed these steps: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cannot-delete-messages#:~:text=Close%20Thunderbird.,Select%20the%20Trash%20and%20Trash.

And it did not resolve the problem.

Any other ideas?

v91.7.0 on OS X 10.14.6 Used TB for many many years. Have a Charter IMAP email account set up. All of a sudden a good number of months ago, all my emails in my Inbox have a banner that says "This is a draft message" when just clicking on them in the email list.

Opening any of those mail (which for some reason always opens as Write: mode, whatever that is, not view or reply; not sure what's going on there either) will show a yellow banner at the bottom of the email with the following: "A unique identity matching the From address was not found. The message will be sent using the current From field and settings from identity <IDENTITY> <MY EMAIL>."

Any other folders, like Sent or Saved folders don't show or have this issue. I am not and don't use Unified View. I also have two GMail accounts and neither of them are doing that with their Inboxes.

EDIT: It displays some similarities as the bug here, but not all of them (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1508153). For example I don't get a double window.
