I use Thunderbird with Gmail. It has an All Mail folder storing all messages and an Inbox folder storing all incoming messages. One can archive messages by moving them to All Mail from Inbox. Can I somehow list such messages, i.e. messages that are in All Mail but not in Inbox (and not in Sent)? Looking at the search dialogue, I cannot find such option, but maybe I am missing something?

Thunderbird 115 now ignores my userChrome.css

I have a userChrome.css to change the color of unread messages in the "list of messages" pane to orange:

/* Messagepane text */ treechildren::-moz-tree-cell-text(new) {

       color: #34ebdc !important;
       font-weight: normal;

} treechildren::-moz-tree-cell-text(unread) {

       color: #34c6eb !important;
       font-weight: normal !important;

}

This worked fine in TB 102 and prior. When I upgraded to TB 115 this no longer has any effect. I'm not sure if the userChrome.css is being ignored or if the styling elements in userChrome.css have changed.

I'm on Windows 11 and userChrome.css is located in 2 places: C:\Users\$username\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\$profile.default\chrome\userChrome.css C:\Users\$username\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\$profile.default\chrome\userChrome.css

I have added a new Gmail account in Thunderbird (also did it in SeaMonkey and BlueMail). In BlueMail everything works fine. In Thunderbird and SeaMonkey, only the Incoming mail works. Outgoing mail does not arrive in destination inbox. I have tried everything - removing account and re-creating the account several times. In Thunderbird, the email account is created automatically; in SeaMonkey, I created it manually. I already have another Gmail account in Thunderbird that has always worked just fine. When I look at the STMP settings, they are all identical with the one that works except for the new email address < Port 465, OAuth2, SSL/TLS>. One help website recommended >Port 587, OAuth2, STARTTLS> but that did not work either. I followed the YouTube video on how to add your Gmail account to Thunderbird that appears on Mozilla Support. I have tried everything.

Nothing has worked. I am at my wits' end. I need this new account for a volunteer position that I have. I have used Thunderbird successfully for years. I want to keep using Thunderbird on my PC and not have to go to GMail website to use it.

Please advise me. Thanks!

I need to style the message list, and I have googled /chaptGPT'd a lot.

I've set the toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets flag to true in the config panel.

Created a "chrome" folder in the profile folder as indicated by "Help/Troubleshooting Information" and added a userChrome.css file in the folder. Even added a "profile" folder within that and copied the folder and file to there.

Added some CSS to the file

  1. threadTree > treechildren {
 font-size: 12pt !important;
 color: red !important;

}

treechildren::-moz-tree-cell-text(unread) {

  font-style: italic !important;
  font-weight: bold !important;
    background-color: #ffffff !important;

}

Restarted and nothing is changing.

How can I change the font size in the message list and the folder list? No issues with CSS styling.

With the recent change of putting new messages in a nested 'thread', new messages are still bold; But because it is now nested, one doesn't know if there is a new message at a glance like before.

I've seen in a comment posted here about the same situation but it involves creating css files and such.

Could thunderbird not make some adjustment and just highlight the top visible message as bold if there is a new message within it's thread?

Hi, I'm writing an OS extension (in Gnome) to display an icon whenever there are unread or new messages.

Getting the number of unread messages is straightforward, I just have to count the number of "X-Mozilla-Status: 0000" in the Inbox files.

But is there a similar way to get the number of new messages ?

According to https://vincent.bernat.ch/en/x-mozilla-status, there's "X-Mozilla-Status2", which should be "00010000" for new messages. But all my messages, including the new ones, have "00000000".

I have several filters set up to automatically organise certain automatic emails which I do not need to read, but do need to save, into folders. The filters are set to be active when 'Getting New Mail', however they are not acting as I'd expect.

When I receive new mail, and it downloads mails which should be filtered, they appear in my inbox - they are not filtered. If I press 'Get messages' then the filters are applied and the emails are moved from the inbox to the various folders. If I don;t press 'Get Messages' then they sit in my inbox, clogging it up with spam. But this isn't really applying the filters upon 'Getting New Mail', it's actually more like manually applying the filters, because I have to hit the 'Get Messages' button for the filter to apply, or wait for the next scheduled time that mails are downloaded from the server.

Is there a way to get the filters to be applied immediately that they are downloaded, triggered automatically by them being downloaded in the first instance.

As an aside, I know that filters can be run on a scheduled task every 10 minutes, but that's not a good workaround in my circumstances.

Right after upgrading Thunderbird to Supernova on my Windows desktop, the scroll wheel on my mouse stopped working. This is just within Thunderbird, the scroll wheel works fine for everything else in Windows.

Is there a fix? If not, is it possible I can revert back to Thunderbird pre-Supernova? This is really annoying, that one convenient feature missing knocks Thunderbird far down below other mail software.

Add to that the "Mark as" button on the toolbar no longer works as it did before. Used to be able to just click it to toggle the status of the message, a one-click method of marking a message as read or unread.

I managed to zoom the messages in the message window by hitting cmd + but this does not work for the main window. Could not find a solution/hint despite quite some search. Thanks for your help. We no longer have access to our account settings = on account of a cat we presume must have tread on keyboard at some crucial moment, when no one was looking.

The IRC settings line is now so long that it forced the width of the column to a max, leaving no room in the window to access the right hand column, where most of the configuration and prefs can be seen/manipulated. Right column is of zero width now and its border cannot be reached with the mouse and pulled back left.

I suppose one could throw away all settings files but it might be painful and time consuming - trying to reconfig this person's entire settings.

Is there any config file where IRC settings can be text edited back to a normal number of characters?

Failing that - Is there are particular preference file which can be junked, maintaining most other settings on the program?

Or other sage advice appreciated

Thanks

Yesterday I tried the 115 (Supernova) and I was disappointed because of the toolbar on top of the TB window: I think that you should let the user choose where put any toolbar, and I didn't find the way to move in its "classical" place (not at top but below the menu). There is a way to do it? And if not, please consider to give it as soon as possible.

Have 1 Windows PC that cannot install Thunderbird add-ons. If I try to browse to, or search, the add-ons site, it opens a new tab and hangs on loading until, I assume, the heat death of the universe. If I browse to the site in a web browser, download the extension, and install it manually, it shows up, but incomplete (no options) and doesn't work.

I've tried uninstalling, deleting all profiles and other files, and reinstalling. I've tried removing everything, reinstalling, and copying the profile over from a PC that's working fine. Nothing works. Thunderbird on this PC simply won't look at add-ons.

I hate the new version of Thunderbird (115.1.0 on Windows 10). I've been using Thunderbird for decades and always liked it until now.

1. "Get messages" used to be prominent. Now the only options other than "Get Messages" way up top above the standard Windows menu bar is a choice of whether to display a tiny icon below the menu bar to the left of a large button "+ New Message." I want a large button the size of the New Message button with caption "Get Messages."

It doesn't make usage sense to me to make a large New Message button with a small icon to get messages. I get new messages far more often than I write a new message.

Is this customizable?

Or can I move the top menu "Get Messages--Write--Chat--etc." below the menu "File--Edit--View, etc.?"

2. I also don't like the new font family/face for the list of folders window and the "Subject--Correspondents--Date" window. Is there a way I can change the font family/face? The only options I see are to change the font size and the vertical spacing of the lines with the "Density" options.

3. I also don't like the new icon in the Task Bar for Thunderbird. I think it might be a fox curled up, but because it's so small it just looks like an imperfect blue circle with a white center--meaningless. Can I change that back to the old one or something else?

These changes actually made me consider changing to Microsoft Outlook.

Thanks.

New version this morning. Thunderbird is now double spaced - the most annoying problem at the moment - how can I reduce this to single spacing in the message pane, the folders pane and why is the test so huge in the message itself. It would be useful for TB to show a key to all the names of the parts of the screen.

Firstly, can you please help me to reduce the double spacing. I did try to install the previous version but I don't want to mess things up and I've no idea what a .css file is, so simple instructions please.

Also, I have a specific size of box for when I write a new message but I'm typing away and my words are not seen unless I widen the box!!

Can we have the old version back please - if it ain't broke............

How do I get rid of the write tab user/sender choice drop down? I want just to click the write tab once and get the new email window with no need to click the user choice drop down.

In the past I had multiple usernames so when I clicked the write tab it gave me a drop down for the choice. Now I have only one account username and the drop down still appears even though it has only one choice available. How do I get rid of the write tab user/sender choice drop down?
