How can I be rid of this annoyance? The "latest copy" to download is what I'm already running! This began with my update to version 91.10.0 from the previous version.

I have a very small Tablet computer and Thunderbird is really bogged down on it. The tablet has a 32 bit processor, 1G RAM, 64G SD drive. (1) When I run TB I get many "not responding" messages from Windows. (2) Maybe 1/2 the time, if I "delete" a message the screen will freeze on the message. The message is removed from the inbox list. I have to click "X" to get rid of that screen. (3) Get Messages no longer works. When I click it, nothing happens. The status bar at the bottom remains on the last information displayed. I found that if I use View, Folders, All, I can bump TB to get messages. (Normally I use Unified Folders) The status bar will display each of the accounts it is checking and any new messages will appear. These things have been happening through many many versions of TB. Although #3 seemed fixed a few weeks ago but has returned. Same for #2.

I looked at the disk space that TB is using and found that TB is using over 10GB. See attached. I don't know why it is so large. I don't need to store any messages on this computer. I have a desktop that is my "base station" where I want to save all (but deleted) messages.

I don't know if this large amount of TB space is contributing to the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

I really hesitate to ask contributors for help. I know you're all volunteers and you don't deserve these headaches.

I used Thunderbird happily for years. Then the old Thunderbird started have problems. I raised the problems here and got a lot of help until it was just so unusable, I quit.

I tried a number of mail programs that was on my linux computer. It just boggles the mind how many different ways people can think of to handle things that need simplicity.

I want a left side column that has all my email accounts visible all the time. I want an email screen that I can close without automatically going to the next email. Right now, If I call up an email to read, I lose my email account list. There are two ways to get back to the email account list. One is to press the "<" to move the top line of whatever to the right and the arrow to the left until "INBOX" appears. The other way is the hit in "inbox" box, which gets you nothing. I hit the next box below and I get my Address books. Being curious, after I got the Address books, I hit the Inbox button again - and now I get the Inbox (list of all email accounts). Why can't they make the top button work the first time?

In the overall settings, I indicated that I wanted the print to be 26 pixels, picas, whatever, and it does nothing! I'm 84 and I can read the small print. Why doesn't the settings work?

When I switched to 115, I gave a donation because I thought that they fixed things. I'm not donating anything again until they not only fix things but they don't design what they think is an oversmart application. There's this new thing - what - SuperNova. I'm not going anywhere near that.

I'm not trying to upset volunteers, you don't deserve that. What I want is this passed on to the company so they know just how frustrating it is to work with their software. Volunteers, please don't take this personally. You work too hard to help people out.

When the upgrade from v91 to v102 came for my Windows 10 desktop, I said, "Go ahead!" After restarting the client, Tbird would go to check new messages and would just keep spinning in its progress area without downloading new messages - which I knew were there. Eventually I had to downgrade back to v91, which thankfully worked well.

I have a Ubuntu 20.04LTS desktop that my partner uses. It was going along fine with v91 but v102 came last night and I didn't notice in the list of packages to be upgraded until it was too late. Now they have the same problem! I haven't downgraded yet since the process will be a little more involved in Ubuntu and I would like to solve the underlying problem so I can keep upgrading to newer versions without worry in the future.

There is a wrinkle to my problems in that both setups are a little unconventional. My mail host eschews passwords in favor of SSH keys. What I've had to setup - and it's been working for about 15 years or more - is an SSH tunnel via an xinetd service. On my Windows box I use Cygwin and for Ubuntu I just use regular old bash and the services directly. When I encounter this new problem upon loading Tbird, I can telnet to my custom port on localhost and see that the connection is being made to the remote IMAP server. I can even list things with a little manual interaction. I really have no idea why it is not working.

I have a wireshark recording from when my Windows installation stopped working, but I would be hesitant to share too many personal details on a public forum.

My mail host/server is using Ubuntu's uw-imapd version 8:2007e~dfsg-3.2ubuntu1 (from Ubuntu 22.04.1).

I've just upgraded, automatically, to the latest Thunderbird. On opening nothing exists, no address book, no folders or emails, nothing. No idea what's happened as this was an automatic process. I have found a profile folder where it should be but I'm not confident to start trying to change things as I'm happy to find what looks like the data but don't want to do anything that might affect it. Any help? As far as I'm aware my install is 'normal'.

Hi,

I have several Gmail accounts. I have been using Thunderbird for many years. POP3 I keep everything on my Desktop. I just got this from Google and I'm at a loss. Anyone have any idea if or how it will affect Thunderbird's login?

Google On May 30, you may lose access to apps that are using less secure sign-in technology ??????@gmail.com To help keep your account secure, Google will no longer support the use of third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign in to your Google Account (Link to my account) using only your username and password. Instead, you’ll need to sign in using Sign in with Google or other more secure technologies, like OAuth 2.0.

What do you need to do?

Thunderbird will not connect to my bt mail. I have tried Mailbird, Outlook and others and they will not connect. I have checked configuration with BT and they say all OK. Have changed password - no change. Manually configured with password - no change. My PC has had a new SSD since and still will not connect. I have Broadband with BT so I get the same privaligies as Premium. I have malwarebytes and that allows them to connect. Up until a couple of weeks ago it worked OK and then suddenly it stopped working. Had my local Techie shop look at it - no result. They said it must be BT, but spoke to them again today and they say it should work - certainly with outlook. They recognise connection, but says either config or password incorrect. Changed password again, but no change. Can you please tell me where the problems is. Thanks

Hi,

My Thunderbird auto updated this afternoon to 115.3.1 . Now I am only seeing message headers. The body of the messages has disappeared. I'm not seeing anything on the bottom half of the screen, not even the message tool bar where you can delete, reply, etc..

Strangely -- the very same thing happened to me six months back with a secondary account, but my primary account was unaffected. So I was using the email interface with one email address (same domain name) which worked fine, while the secondary one only showed headers, and not the actual messages.

NOW-- after this download, the secondary email address account is showing both the headers and the messages, while my primary account is only showing the headers.

PLEASE HELP. Posted here six months ago for the previous time but never got any solution to the problem then. Just lived with it, as it was a secondary email address, but I will have to leave Thunderbird if I can't get the primary address showing actual messages soon.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Zach

Every few days, when I'm actively using Thunderbird (v102.5.1 32-bit, on Windows 11 Home), a white rectangle appears at the top of the page (see snip attached - if 2 appear, delete 1). The interesting thing is that this box persists IN THE SAME SCREEN POSITION, EVEN WHEN I MOVE THE THUNDERBIRD WINDOW AWAY. It overlays everything else on screen at that position, making use of any icon or button beneath it impossible. However, by moving the cursor across the box, it is clear that whatever is beneath IS being recognised by the cursor (as it changes style when above a button etc); clicking at that place does activate it (eg opening a file from a desktop icon). I have found no way of removing the box (which can't be moved) other than rebooting the PC. This anomaly was happening BEFORE both the upgrade to Windows 11 (from 10) AND recent Thunderbird upgrades. I can find no clues from searching here or elsewhere - help would be much appreciated. Thanks
