Hello,

I've recently encountered a curious issue with my Firefox browser (Firefox version 102.0, Windows 11 Insider Preview 10.0.25145.1011). At seemingly random times it will freeze for between two and five minutes (roughly). UI elements become completely unresponsive and the cursor does not update when moving over the browser window. The window will not minimize. Yet, Windows Task Manager does not report the application as being unresponsive. While never a common problem, any freezes in the past would eventually cause the Windows Task Manager to identify it as unresponsive.

I have disabled "recommended performance settings" and hardware acceleration to no avail. Everything seems perfectly normal immediately before and after the freezes, and I've yet to identify how I can trigger them. I do not recall having made any changes to my browser before the freezes started occurring, though multiple Windows updates have taken place since then. If I'm too impatient to wait I will end the Firefox processes via Windows Task Manager and restart it so I can return to my tabs without having cookies deleted. I have 13 plugins mainly covering privacy/security concerns. Is there some sort of debug tool I can engage to see what's occupying Firefox while it's frozen? I've just found the Firefox Task Manager, and will see if it can offer any additional information during/after the freezes.

Thanks, Logan

Some webpages cause the browser to automatically reload them at periodic intervals. Sometimes these intervals are too short and in the middle of reading the webpage it gets reloaded.

How do I prevent Firefox from accepting a reload command from the webpage I am currently browsing?

I did not see an answer to this in the FAQ.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this and answering if you choose to do so.

Youtube bottom left corner URL won't go away - full solution

Moderators, I am copy and pasting the below warning I have seen on similar posts at the top of the post.

--- WARNING: This script is not provided by Mozilla and is not officially supported Creating a userChrome.css file and other ways of customizing Firefox that are not exposed in the interface are there for developers, not end-users. If it were intended for end-users, you would see a menu option or checkbox; you wouldn't have to hack a text file in a hidden location.

What this means is that even though the functionality you want is no longer supported, a third-party has found a way to do it using the CSS file. If it breaks in new versions, you will need to contact the person who provided the script.

[Warning was not added by moderator, but by me to save someone time.] ---

With that out of the way, here's the issue I have, how I've solved it temporarily for the community.

When I load YouTube videos, I am given a statuspanel message with the URL of the video playing. It's not momentary or temporary, it stays there, the entire time. Why anyone thought this was a good idea, I'm not sure.

My question is simple, is there an alternative solution - to remove this statuspanel message permentantly - to what I'm sharing here, without using the userChrome.css file?

If so, please provide the solution so it can be tested and upvoted by the community, thank you in advance if that is you.

If there is not, then this post also serves as solution as well as a request to Modzila, that being.

Modzilla. Please make a solution that doesn't need custom .css scripts.

I am posting this as I needed multiple posts to achieve a solution so am hoping this serves as that for someone (including myself) until Firefox resolves this issue themselves, another way.

Solution: Windows 7/8/10/11 as of Firefox version 120.0

1. Go to about:config, click Accept the Risk and Continue 2. Type "toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets", toggle this to true 3. Close all instances of Firefox 4. Open Explorer, navigate to %appdata% then navigate down to \Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles and select your profile folder. If you only have 1 it may be obvious, if not for me it's the only "~.default-release" folder, where ~ is a random set or letters and numbers. If you're unsure, pick the first folder named like this, then repeat the next steps for all profile folders, or use trial and error if you prefer until you achieve the desired result. 5. Make a new folder "chrome" in that folder. 6. In this folder make a new .css file, right click make a new .txt file rename the file and extension "userChrome.css". 6. Open the blank .css file with a text editor and paste this line without quotes "#statuspanel {display:none!important;}" and save. 7. Attempt to load videos or pages where messages usually appear in the bottom left and observe the results

There are various other posts both here and other places that I have combined to write this solution, none of the others worked on their own, for me, which is why I write this and to refresh the request to the Modzilla Firefox team, to please, share or make a solution so we don't have to do this, as you'll otherwise need to continue supporting this legacy feature in future versions of Firefox.

Note: This will likely remove all statuspanel messages on other pages too, I have read other statuspanel commands online so if you want to be particular about muting some and not others, you may need to modify the file further.

Hi Guys,

I use Firefox personally and for business. I use a lot of very useful extensions and like many users I customize my experience. I have found that the number of extensions I use every day is larger then can be shown on the extension toolbar. I am aware that clicking on the "jigsaw" icon will open up all the extensions, however this is not practical and wastes a lot of time. I would like to substantially reduce the size of the search box and increase the available size for my extensions to be in one click territory on the toolbar, how do I best achieve that please?

Cheers

https://support.mozilla.org/bm/questions/1340102#question-reply ^^^^^^ While searching for a very popular FIREFOX topic my top search result on google rendered this page. The answer is incorrect.

How can I fix or delete this erroneous post or may it be edited?

I can create a help page if it means anything to replace this technically and procedurally incorrect and misleading post. I saw it right away but for a newbie to firefox it could send them away screaming in frustration. A help webpage to address this question would be helpful and I can create one if needed. Or did I miss it?

I am trying to work out if a cookie on a web page sent an alert to an ambulance chaser for a minor injury I received. One way to narrow the search is to look at the timing of my use of the webpages that day. The History tool in Library has a number of columns including Added and Last Modified. Both of these are blank in the listing. I can see no other place where a date might be requested or recorded. Sometime last Monday I did the relevant Google search- but when exactly? Was it before or after 16:16? Is it possible to find out in Firefox?

I've seen other people ask this question, and the stock answer appears to be: a) They may be different subdomains, but they're the same site. b) Just add an extra bit on the end of each user name so you can get at the correct one.

Unfortunately...

a) No they are most definitely not the same site: myFirstClientsDevSite.mytestdomain.com mySecondClientsDevSite.mytestdomain.com myThirdClientsDevSite.mytestdomain.com myFirstClientsUATSite.mytestdomain.com mySecondClientsUATSite.mytestdomain.com myThirdClientsUATSite.mytestdomain.com

You see the problem? Firefox treats all those sites as being "the same site", even though they patently are not.

b) I'm working with a lot more than three clients. Plus, that suggestion is basically "we admit that our product is broken, here's a work-around that a few people may be able to use".

And finally: I'm pretty sure that Firefox used to be able to discriminate between subdomains, so the question isn't so much "how can I get it to work", as "why was it taken away in the first place".

My Firefox refuses to load MetaCPAN's OpenSearch.xml file, even though I can access it without problems.

So this got me thinking, as Opensearch files are relatively easy to write, is it possible to import my own opensearch.xml into Firefox?

If it's impossible, I'll submit a ticket to bugzil.la.

I autoscroll, using the middle mouse button a lot. I middle click, release the button, and just move the mouse. To stop the scrolling I click the middle button again.

The problem is that in Twitter (only when using Firefox, not Chrome), and perhaps a very few other websites, if I make that second click (to end scrolling) over a link or linked image, the link opens (in a new tab). This is very frustrating, since I can move the mouse anywhere while scrolling, and I commonly mistakenly open links this way, interrupting my reading.

If I am *not* autoscrolling and middle-click on a link in Twitter, nothing happens. (Perfect!) But if I am autoscrolling the link opens (Bad!).

How can I set up Firefox to that the middle mouse button will never open links, and only function for scrolling?

I have a live radio link I stream from on my laptop, and it used to work on mobile using firefox.

Granted I haven't used it in a while on mobile so there have been a few updates. However, I went to stream it today and it loads as a download link. I even tried to force a desktop site and it still wanted to download. How do I circumvent the download so it will stream the media on my android device using firefox.

To me, browsing the web is equally important on Desktop and on Mobile.

I have a really powerful desktop PC and I use Firefox for Windows with uBlock Origin. The speed difference between a Chromium based browser and Firefox on my desktop is negligible.

On the other hand, using Firefox on Android is atrocious, laggy, sluggish, slow as hell. I used Bromite (the lightest and most privacy focused chromium browser on Android) and I don't wanna go back. Sure, I'll lose the pristine cosmetic filtering and blocking capabilities of uBlock origin but the websites will load twice/thrice as fast and the app feels fast.

Now, if I change browser on mobile I will have to change it on Desktop too, cause of features like Bookmark syncing, sending pages to mobile and viceversa ecc...

I need a solution. I like firefox, what they are doing as a non profit organization, the battle against Chromium, the fact that adblocking works better ecc... but I don't want to compromise on mobile performance.

What should I do? Switch to something like Brave or is there any solution? Thanks.
