I have received this message with a firefox address which says 'repair window erroes' and 2 updates available. Big flashing messages. But I update every day so is this reliable or a scam?

i think it is a scam because it comes with competitions to enter. Please advise what to do. If it is a scam, how to prevent it happening.

I use microsoft security and malawarebytes Anti Malware free Is there anything more I should do because I am regularly getting rid of 1000 detected sites on malaware?

From your description, it seems that your computer is infected with a virus. I would recommend trying Norton Power Eraser. If the link (below) doesn't work, use your preferred web-based search engine and type Norton Power Eraser in the search field.

Whenever you get a message / popup that software / files need to be updated,

DO NOT USE ANY OF THE PROVIDED LINKS.

While this may be a legitimate message, it could also be Malware or a Virus. Any time you want or need to check for upgrades, go to the web site of the True Owner of the program in question. For example, to check out Firefox, go to Mozilla.org or Firefox In Any Language.
