Hello,

As mentioned by you Firefox works fine when it is started in safe mode - is that right? If to find out if some of the plugins/addons you installed are causing the browser to freeze, can you please try to disable addons one by one to see if that helps in finding the plugin which might be causing this issue.

Also, can you please confirm if you were seeing this issue earlier or if this is something you started to notice once you upgraded to Firefox 26.0.

Thank you

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I've just noticed in the past week or two, but it would happen on and off before. Sometimes I could open firefox on the first try but other times I would have to end it even though it would say it was running and re-start it again. So overall I've been having the issue for awhile, but it just turned into me not being able to get out of safe mode at all. I'm going to try both of your suggestions tomorrow and see if either work, thank you both.

Note that your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize some prefs on each start of Firefox.

The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created it, so normally it wouldn't be there. you can check its content with a plain text editor if you didn't create this file yourself.

The user.js file is read each time you start Firefox and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

Thanks Gnittala! I disabled them and Firefox opened up fine on the first try, so it seems as if that was the issue. Thank you all for the help!
