Our whole office runs on a Mac Open Directory login setup. Versions 23-Present will not allow a user to open firefox without freezing instantly. The only option is to force quit and install version 22 to continue to work. I'm sure this has to foo with permissions to access the proper folder but I don't know where these types of settings would need to be changed for your program to work.

Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the Mozilla Plugin Check site.

Safe Mode -

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

FirefoxSafeMode

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode" Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

Does this happen when they use a profile that is located on a network or with a local profile as well?

What are the current permissions?

Note that Firefox may have created a separate folder for the location of the caches.

  • /Users/<user>/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile>/

Dbellca82 - holding option doesn't allow me to get any farther then it does opening it the regular way.

cor-el - local profile holders work just fine. It is only troubled with network stored user information. All the users have full access to their own files and folder. I just seems that it can't find the proper place for the folder.

Are you starting Firefox with an absolute path to the profile folder?

If not then Firefox uses a profiles.ini file to locate profiles.

I have tried the command line for many different options. still the same problem. I also tried to modify the profiles.ini for a more specific path to the profiles and still the same issue.
