Upgraded from 17.0.9esr to 24.0esr, now all downloads are not visible at all anywhere

more options

I just upgraded from 17.0.9esr to 24.0esr. At first I noticed that download statusbar didn't show any downloads when they were downloading, so I decided to remove it. That didn't change anything as I cannot see them in Tools->Downloads tab. I tried messing with the browser.download.useJSTransfer and browser.download.useToolkitUI, as I have seen in my search, but they do not help. I also tried changing the private browsing mode options, and although I can see that downloads fail, I cannot see when they are downloading. I'm not sure what is going on.

Chosen solution

I reset firefox settings and it seems to be fixed. I could not identify any one option that might have been the cause. It could have been download statusbar. I don't need it anymore because the new download managers works well enough.

The download manager changed in Firefox 20. The old download panel disappeared and has been replaced by a new model. See the following:

You can view your downloads:

  • last 3 are shown by clicking the "down" arrow or the download/download-progress icon in the toolbar
  • see all of your current session downloads by opening a tab or a new window, entering about:downloads in the URL/Location bar and press the Enter key
  • open the Library window in Firefox and you will see a new major heading "Downloads"

Ok, I did what you said, I clicked the download button that opened the about:downloads tab, I opened the Library.Downloads, I went to sourceforge to download something, or I can go anywhere, but in the about:downloads tab it always says "There are no downloads." even tho I can see that there is a file.zip.part on my filesystem and I can see that something is downloading using my internet monitor. Interestingly the download never completes properly as there is always a .part file. There is also nothing displayed in Library.Downloads.

Well, I guess I will try resetting all the settings, even tho it wasn't what I wanted to do, because I have to configure a lot of stuff after that to get to the way I want. I will post if this fixes it or if I can identify exactly the cause.

about:downloads should list the new downloads "in progress", as well as the downloads migrated from Firefox 17.

If you are in a private browsing window, you may not see the downloads from non-private windows, and vice versa. I haven't studied that closely enough to say I understand the interaction.

Hi htexmexh, the Reset feature moves your old settings to a folder named Old Firefox Data on your desktop. I recommend keeping that folder for a couple of weeks in case you discover you're missing some vital data that didn't transfer over in the Reset.
