vlc is unable to open mrl

I use VLC to view video clips on line. When I try to open a clip I get the error message "VLC is unable to open the MRL" I have followed the suggestions regarding changing Windows Firewall settings and have even switched this off to no effect. I have No-Script installed which I have to click on before the clip will play could this possibly be causing the issue Many thanks Nick

A blind hen suggestion (from http://forums.gbpvr.com/showthread.php?51307-VLC-unable-to-open-the-MRL)

The default streaming port for NEWA is 7648. You must have this port opened on your servers firewall and if you want to access outside of your home network you need to have that port opened on your router as well and forwarded to your server. If you changed the port....that is fine so long as it is not being used by something else on the system. You still need to specifically open the port within windows firewall on the server.
