I have been using firefox since you began. few months ago decided to add nightly to my laptop. just today decided to uninstall as I seldom use it. Now I find I have lost everything including my bookmarks, these are extremely important to me. how do I get them back.?

Chosen solution

Note that removing personal data when uninstalling Firefox will remove all profiles including profiles created by other Firefox versions, so use this with extreme caution (i.e. best is to never use this).

When you uninstalled, did you remove personal settings? That wipes your settings without using the Recycle bin. In that case, immediately try to unerase the folder using a tool such as the following:

http://www.piriform.com/recuva

That works best when you haven't done anything on your hard drive in the interim, and you probably want to download it to a USB flash drive and run it from there to minimize the risk of overwriting.

Also, how did you realize they were missing -- did you run a different version of Firefox already on your system, or install a different version?

If you didn't remove personal settings, you might have multiple profile folders. Try starting up in Firefox's profile manager and see whether you can access the one with your bookmarks. See: Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles.

Yes, I returned to my my firefox that I use all the time. it is 19.0 and every thing was gone. I do not import my bookmarks to internet explorer as I never use it.I know very little about computers and don't understand why this happened. I have always had fire fox on my computer, but only had nightly on for a few months, but did not remove fire fox.

O.K. I think I understand. Being a layman I thought when I installed installed nightly, i WAS installing a separate browser. I think that firefox should make this clear when asking their users to try nightly. I have downloaded another browser to try, Probably want be back as much as I liked fire fox. Thanks for trying....Roger

Hopefully you have run the data recovery utility by now. Even if you adopt another browser, you probably still want those bookmarks back.

i just did the same thing and was horrified that i inadvertently checked that box to remove my personal data. not fun.

after a few searches i found that firefox saved my old default profile along with the new default profile that was created. i just copied the old contents into the new default folder overwriting everything.

all bookmarks, passwords and settings are back.

go to appdata\roaming\mozilla\firefox\profiles\ hopefully you will see two .default files. the old one will be the one with about 13 random numbers listed after the .default
