Too complicated for 1 line..FF installed, shortcut present, opens but does absolutely NOTHING after that

I have used Firefox forever, but I'm ready to rip my hair out. I just 30 minutes ago, downloaded the latest version. What I have is this. There is a shortcut on my desktop, and the browser opens when I click on it. When it opens, I can open new tabs, and go to a new site. After doing that, the tabs are froze...I cannot do ANYTHING. The tabs will not close individually. I can close the browser by using the "X" in the upper right. Also, there is no Firefox when I open windows and programs. I am running Win 7 64 bit. When I open control panel and programs and features, Firefox is also no where to be found there either. Don't know what else I can tell you other than FF is DOA
