I use the Firefox Memory Extension to remind me every Ttime I log on to Firefox to check The options Page to make sure Firefox hasn't changed the configuration on my preferences. I've configured Firefox 15.01 beta not to have my browser updated.

But then after a few weeks I will notice the configuration for updating my browser has been "mysteriously" changed.to indicate I want updating when I decidedly don't. This has happened several times. So now I check the configuration each and every time I log on to make sure I won't be updated.

But even so, it is not foolproof because Firefox can update my browser between sessions and there's not a thing I can do to stop it. and as a mater of fact I believe that i what they're going to do

I have zero expectations that it will ever stop. But as much as I prefer Firefox over any other browser by far, the next time it does happen i will have no choice but to leave Firefox forever

All Firefox 15's are beta right now. The Stable version of Firefox (right now) is Firefox 14.0.1. Go to www.getfirefox.com, and download the release version of Firefox there. Then uninstall Beta, and install the Release version you downloaded.

If I can, I just want to know why you are running an unstable Beta, but don't want to update it?

1. Why use the Beta version if you don't want to help with testing it?

2. Firefox can't download an update when Firefox isn't running - the update check is done shortly after Firefox is opened for the day. Seems to be like 3 minutes after Firefox is launched.
Changes to the updater are coming in Firefox 17, but it will still need Firefox to be running for that and later version of Firefox to even check for an update. Unlike Chrome, I don't think Mozilla is going to be adding a separate "update process" which would run whenever the PC is turned on.

I apologize for providing you with an erroneous Firefox version describing it as 15.01 beta when it actually is 15.0.0.4588. I had originally updated it to the beta version but subsequently changed it to 15.0.0.4588. Again my apologies.

My complaint is made even more emphatic, annoying and troublesome when last night before signing off left the update configuration like this

(left blank unchecked) automatically check updates

(left blank unchecked) check for updates but let me choose whether to install them (left configuration checked) never check for updates

only to find the configuration changed back to this

(checked) automatically check updates

(unchecked) check for updates but let me choose whether to install them (unchecked) never check for updates

But this morning as is my new approach I immediately checked the options page to see if my updated configurations have been tampered with and much to my dismay it was indeed tampered, whereby configuring my preferences to update Firefox.

I have finally proven that indeed Firefox is the culprit behind changing customer configurations willfully and deliberately not only for update purposes, deleting content they don't want on their Firefox pages to resetting the about:config preferences I've spend hours meticulously changing, re-configuring.

My point is that unless I receive a satisfactory answer, I will keep my word and swear off Firefox forever. Because not trusting a browser is the worst characteristic of any software. And you firefox should know that beter than anyone else.

This morning as part of my new protocol I checked the options page as soon as Iogged in only to find to my shock and dismay the configuration changed back to the original mode of having Firefox updated

(checked) automatically check updates

Again, you shouldn't run a Beta version without installing updates. As for Firefox not keeping preferences, please read How to fix preferences that won't save

Are you saying Firefox 15.0.0.4588 is a beta? If so, what is the most recent stable Firefox version? Thank you for your time and effort contributed on my behalf as a long Firefox user (since 2003)

Okay. It's big, really big mea culpa time for me.to everyone of the good folks at Mozilla who've made a browser I've never been able to walk away from despite niggling issues, annoyances, mostly out of sheer ignorance.

Special expressions of gratitude and appreciation toTylerdowner, and the-edmeister for setting me straight, teaching this old Firefox dog since 2003 a thing or two.

I did take the time to download Firefox 14.01, hopefully not get to see those very things that vexed me for years, yes, due to my own pig-headedness.but I believe I know better now, thanks to you both.

.....Now, if you could do something about those cats on Firefox's help site.....

Seriously, thanks very much for setting me straight and learning I could actually love Firefox more than I could ever imagine. :-)
