Updated my Firefox to version 8 this morning, since then I have been unable to use Firefox. Each time I double-click my icon on my desktop, Firefox crashes. I can't click on any web links in emails otherwise Firefox crashes. Yes I have updated my plug-ins, updated Windows, done everything. Nothing works, and of course getting a hold of Firefox technical support is impossible since it doesn't even appear to exist. How wonderful it is to not even be able to use Firefox and check my sites I have bookmarked. I use Windows XP Professional, not the latest and greatest, but Firefox stated that version 8 is compatible with Windows XP. I have been reporting the crashes all day long, with zero response.

Ditto. With Opera, Chrome, Palemoon and Seamonkey I'm good. Time to deep six Firefox, now the most user unfriendly browser on the planet.

Last night I just kept clicking the "send report" once the crash box would appear and at random times I would get the main Firefox page up but it only last about 10 seconds and then crash again. After doing this about a dozen times I was able to get Firefox up and running for a few minutes before crashing and then ultimately I got it up and running without problems so far, however I have noticed some of my favorite places icons are not there but replaced by a square box made of dots.

I do use Roboform but did not do anything to it until I saw your post and then I updated it to the latest version as it was 7.5 and 7.6 is the newest version. So far while I don't feel it is at 100%, it at least is working.

Since yesterday we have a lot of crashes with Roboform. Installing the latest version 7.6.2 of Roboform should solve this problem according to the Related Bug 691271.

Thanks, since I updated my Robform after I had the issues, I may uninstall my Firefox 8 and reload it again. Thanks for the assistance to those who responded.

I had the same problem with Freezes and crashes, think I narrowed it down to being Trusteer Rapport. Uninstalled this and it seems ok so far

Upgrading my RoboForm 7.5.7 to the latest 7.6.4 solved the problem so far.

I was with FF6. Got upgraded automatically without my consent, presenting only the selection of add-ons to select/deselect.

@ Kinsella5: no need to "uninstall my Firefox 8", just update RoboForm (do the run and execute, it'll ask or do close all active browsers, ask you to define parameters and when ready it'll launch your FF8 with no question).

@all: IMHO, ALL major and critical FF releases should present to the user a warning with a YES/NO/LATER choice.

@all: Is this upgrade bug affecting only RoboForm users or what?

I noticed that 260 people seem to have the same problem I had, while it was beyond frustrating, I will admit after updating Roboform to the current version, I didn't have the issue anymore. If all 260 people who mentioned they were having the same issue, all are Roboform users, then update the program to the newest version and you should be all set.

Since it does not seem possible to contact Firefox Tech Support for serious issues, Firefox no longer is my choice of Browsers. I have to keep re-loading, and re-loading, and re-loading the damn websites. I know you are a .org, but pick up the pace! You are losing customers with your stupid way of tech support. Give me a fork! I'm Done!

I have the same crashing/hanging issue, but I don't use roboform.

After extensive testing, I've discovered a conflict with my ATI HD5670 drivers; specifically: ati2cqag.dll, ati2dvag.dll, ati3duag.dll, atikvag.dll, atiok3x2.dll.

I found that when I prevent these files from loading (by simply renaming them), all of the crashes & startup hangs disappear.

I had the same problem going from FF 3.6.x to FF4.

Firefox 9 is definitely a big step back. As we do lots of research and can not relay on this kind of behavior. On all our Machines same issues, Windows 7, Vista, XP. Watching a you Tube Video, or just scroll thru a page, and then crash. With no add-ons installed, still the same so it is a Firefox issue. All we can recommend is uninstall and reinstall Firefox 7 or 8. We found Firefox 7 the best, even with 40 taps or more open still stable and reliable. Sorry Firefox 9 is a p.o.s.!!!!!!!!

Sorry boys and girls even a clean install of Firefox 9 does not solve the issues the community is experiencing on any Windows OS. Roboform is not the issue it is Firefox.

All I know is when I removed Roboform and then downloaded Firefox 8, and reloaded Roboform, it helped. I have not had any issues since, even with Firefox 9.1 out now.

I run Vista, and I love Vista. I'm not joking. It's awesome. But Firefox keeps vomiting blood on me, so I'm going to euthenize it... I've since become a faithful convert to IE9, which is (Gasp! *HeadExplode*) a much more stable and responsive browser than Firfox... And don't puke out your guts and spit up your lunch in suprize, you know it's true, even if it's shocking. Mozilla, get yourself together. Microsoft is on your back, Google is going for your throat, and Apple (!) is holding your legs down. They're going to destroy you.
