How do I get a search result to activate a new tab?

In previous versions of Firefox that I have used, whenever I typed a word or term in the upper right hand search box, the result automatically activated and appeared as a new tab (it may have appeared as a new FF browser window all together, I cannot remember for sure).

In the current version that I am using (6.0.2), anytime I search using said search box, the result is automatically displayed on the current webpage I am on. It changes the page that I am on.

How do you change, or where is the setting that needs to be changed (I have looked throughout "tool", then ""options" and have not found a setting/choice for this action)??

I would greatly appreciate help on this since I have found it to be frustrating for quite a while. This is the first time I have sought a solution with you'all though. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

David

You can do one of the following:

  1. After entering your search word(s) in the Search Bar, you can middle-click or Ctrl+left-click the go button (magnifying glass) in the Search Bar (middle-click = (press the mouse scroll wheel).
  2. You can change a preference to always open a new tab when searching from the Search Bar by pressing only the enter key (not the URL/Location/Address Bar):

Dude, this totally worked! Thanks a lot! This had been bothering me for a good while. Glad I finally got un-lazy and posted a request for some help. That was cool too that you gave 2 different choices to choose from to correct my problem. Wasn't hard, didn't take long. Good layout of instructions that you used too. Thanks a again.

Problem totally solved thanks to this guy.
