since upgrading to 5.0, firefox wants internet access to update everyday. Why?
I have McAfee Antivirus Plus, and it tells me every day since I upgraded to 5.0 that firefox wants internet access to update files. Before I upgraded, this did not happen. What gives? Is this legit, or is something weird going on here? Please advise.
Chosen solution
Firefox's default is to automatically check for updates once every 24 hours.
- Turn off automatic updates, if you wish (Options > Advanced > Update) and check manually when you wish (Help > About Firefox > Check for Updates)
- Allow permission in McAfee for the daily check to occur without notifying you (contact McAfree for instructions)
- Change the frequency of the automatic update checking
- type about:config in the URL/Location/Address bar and press the enter key
- if you see a warning, accept it (promise to be careful)
- Filter = app.update.interval
- the default value is 86400 (that is one day in seconds, 24x60x60)
- right-click the preference name in the lower panel, choose "Modify", enter your new value, click OK, close the about:config tab
- The change may take effect immediately or you may need to restart Firefox for the change to take effect, I am not sure which.
