Firefox 4 incompatible with Sony Vaio graphics drivers; driver update not available

Firefox 4 looks great, but I've had to go back to 3.6. Unfortunately, on my Sony Vaio PCG-Z1WAMP, with Firefox 4, sites aren't loading properly; the machine is incredibly slow; Adobe Reader crashes; Firefox freezes and can't be quit without rebooting, etc. Sony's Mobility Radeon graphics chips are apparently highly customized and an update is not available. Must Firefox block old graphics drivers?
