Multiple Firefox sessions have stopped working on W7 64bit SP1 - why?

When I first got my new PC with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, I could not run multiple Firefox sessions. Closing Firefox would also be a pain because the process would not close and I'd have kill the Firefox.exe*32 process via Task Manager.

Then it started working normally. No hung processes and multiple sessions.

Recently, Firefox upgraded itself and I installed SP1 for W7. I'm now back to how things were when I first got this PC. No multiple sessions and hanging processes.

Of course, Windows allows multiple sessions of IE no problem, so I suspect it's Microsoft messing with a browser competitor. Is there a way to fix this?
