Firefox shows an error on MicroSoft SharePoint 2010 site when try to edit a document in client application

Server platform: Microsoft SharePoint 2010 + Office Web apps 2010 Client platform: Windows XP SP2 + Microsoft Office 2007 + Firefox 3.6.15

When a user select the option to Edit a file in client application (e.g. .docx file in Microsoft word) ,Firefox 3.6.15 (and all 3.6.*) shows a message "The document could not be opened for editing. A Microsoft SharePoint Foundation compatible application could not be found to edit the document."

This works without any error on Internet Explorer 8
