When I go to File- New Tab, nothing happens. Same thing when I try Ctrl-T. File-New Window does work. I've tried rebooting.

Hello,

Please open a about:blank in a new tab, press CTRL+T while it's active. If that doesn't work, then one of your extensions might be the cause, please see safe mode and troubleshooting extensions and themes.

The Ask Toolbar specifically is known to cause this issue with Firefox 3.6.13, you could try disabling that in Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions and restarting Firefox.

Yes that's right - disable or uninstall the ask toolbar.

Tools --> Add-ons Then click disable or uninstall on the Ask Toolbar, restart FF when prompted.
