my friends browser is not working tech support told us to download a version of firefox onto disc and download it into his computer. How do i do that without affecting my own browser.

Just save the Firefox_setup file to a USB stick or burn it to a CDR on your PC, and then transfer either to his PC.

You can download the setup file (Firefox Setup 3.6.13.exe) from http://www.mozilla.com/ - If using IE to access that page, choose Save rather than Run to save the setup file.

Copy that file to a disc or USB flash drive and run it on your friends computer to install it.
