Why Cant I the make Vista desktop shortcuts from open Firefox URLs

Using 3.6.13 on Vista laptop: 

I have mouse related problems,  erratic  l & R click functions.  Am  unable to create Desk top shortcuts from URLs,  from the address bar or from the open web page,  since I made Firefox my default browser and uninstalled Windows Outlook browser.

I haven't yet deleted windows mail, media etc. Web images sometimes dont load, and print functions are sometimes erratic.
