Hello Jade.

Hopefully this support article is what you need:

As for the lost passwords, see this:

I give you this advice believe that bookmarks and passwords are the only thing you lost. If you lost ALL your preferences and history (including home page and so on), it's a completely different problem, with a completely different solution.

Question owner

Same issue. I have lost all my passwords after update 3.6.6

Please read this post before saying you have a problem, and if you still have the problem after following my suggestion, be specific about what happens.

Did you try to reboot the computer? It is possible that some files are locked by security software. The Firefox 3.6.6 update only changed the file greprefs\all.js

Question owner

Thanks for the replies folks, the simple solution turned out to be is to copy the profile folder from 'C:\Users\multimediahelp\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\7an66zn3.default'

or vice versa (note that 'multimediahelp' should not be the same in different computers and '7an66zn3.default' is my personal profile name.

Thanks Again !

Question owner

I have the same problem. And I am on XP, so I don't see any folder called "Roaming". I tried copying from: C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\bk70l59q.default to: C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\bk70l59q.default to see if that might help - unfortunately, it did not. I do see a signons.sqlite file (~ 90 KB. The default seems to be only 11 KB) and a key3.db file in the profiles folder.

This really sucks! My last backup was a couple of months back and I have a whole bunch of passwords that I haven't backed up!! Please help.

C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\ is the location of the cache files. You should not move the main profile folder to that location. If you do then you will get an alert that Firefox is already running and need to be closed, which of course you can't do.

Question owner

It's the same here. It has happened three times already. Bookmarks gone, passwords gone and addons gone. Was the intention of this update to drive people back to IE?

Question owner

The problem is not with restoring my old passwords, since I didn't make any backups.

How can I locate my old passwords, although they were not manually backuped?

Google Desktop was my problem. Once I uninstalled it and removed any toolbars, then reset firefox, everything was working again. So in steps

1. Close Firefox and then uninstall Google Desktop if you had it before, or any extra toolbar you had installed previously.

2. Restart Firefox

(You should notice that your back button works again as well as your bookmark section looks normal again.

3. Restore from your backup bookmarks. Thats at the top BOOKMARK-ORGANIZE BOOKMARKS-IMPORT AND BACKUP-RESTORE

Everything hopefully will be working for you again.

I had a similar problem, however this was caused by my encrypted home directory running out of space. The Journal files that were created for the "signon.sqlite" and other sqlite database files were corrupt. Firefox could not access the databases before I removed the journal files:

mv signon.sqlite-journal signon.sqlite-journal_REMOVED

You can read more about the underlying problem here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/151026/how-do-i-unlock-a-sqlite-database
