Recently installed Ubuntu "Lucid Lynx" beside an OEM installation of Windows7 on my new laptop. Ran fine for about 24 hours, then found I couldn't boot into Windows at all anymore. Does boot into Linux OK. Grub shows TWO win installs (Vista and Win7), neither one of which boots; Vista produces a big red "ERROR" message, and Win7 (I had turned on verbose boot, lotsa DOS-looking scrolling lines of text) gets to the last driver and stops (permanently) at a "Please wait..." message. Can't kill it, have to pull both battery and power cord. What I'm trying to do at this point is recover my data (preferences and bookmarks) from the FireFox installation in Windows7, but I have no idea how to import to my Linux install of FireFox. I have no trouble accessing the files themselves, I just don't know where to look, or if I can even do an import operation at all. Any thoughts??

When installing ubuntu, it gives you the option to import automatically.

If you don't want to re-install, you will have to manually import:

  1. Find the BookmarkBackups folder on the Windows partition of your hard drive
  2. Import one of the backups into Firefox, following the steps at Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer
