Thunderbird Email Filters/Rules "Deleted"

more options

Good afternoon,

I recently installed Thunderbird, and it worked fine for a little while. More recently, I have been having problems with it. One of them I was able to fix after some research and trial-and-error (which was Thunderbird not letting me log into my Comcast/Xfinity email account), but this second issue is confusing. I had to remove the account to get back into it (during the first issue), so I'm guessing that must have caused this (second) problem?

When I went to check my filters/rules today (since I receive significant amounts of spam), I was shocked to see that my filters list was empty (I had about 30 or so filters in place before the first issue occurred). I'm guessing there's no way for me to get these back, and so I'll have to manually reinstate each filter "by hand"?

If there is any way to do this more easily, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance for your time!!

The filter rules are contained in a file called 'msgFilterRules.dat' and that file is in the mail account folder in your profile, so if you deleted an imap mail account then you deleted the filters.

If you used a Pop account then it's possible the file may still exist depending upon whether you chose to remove all the data when removing the account.

If you have a backup of your profile then it's possible you also have a backup of the filters. Let me know if you have a backup and I'll offer more info on what to do as it is possible to copy the backup 'msgFilterRules.dat' file and paste it into the relevant folder in current profile. But you have to do it whilst Thunderbird is completely closed/exited.
