What is the exact error message?

The gmail smtp has 'normal password' authentication, instead of OAuth2, like the incoming. Remove the smtp:// entry for the account in Saved Passwords in Settings/Privacy & Security, restart TB, send a test message from the gmail account. You might have to enter the account password in an OAuth browser window, although the existing token in Saved Passwords for the incoming should apply to incoming and outgoing.
