Hello Dear People,

I have been using Thunderbird to great satisfaction. When my computer of 10 1/2 years died, I started to use old laptop of my son who made me the second user. I d/l Thunderbird on my account and it all went well till a few days ago. No Thunderbird. I d/l again, profile not found/inaccessible. I did see advice here from last year, looking for the profile under Users, app data, roaming etc. but to no avail. There is no profile.

How to solve this problem? Also after d/l the set-up, the thumbnail looks strange, like half of the image as shown in the picture. I tried d/l a few times, same result. I was very content with the program. I want Thunderbird back!

Thank you for your advice! Dorith

First, I don't have a solution on why Thunderbird disappeared. So, my suggestion is to check your Windows account. You mentioned being the 'second user' and my thought is that you are logging into PC with your son's account and not yours. Managing multiple setups on Windows I have never done, but that seems a possibility.

Question: Is Thunderbird now working with a new profile? Please give status on your situation.

Thank you for your response.

I log in with my own account. The laptop is such that when I open it, I am at my own account.

I do not know how to set up a new profile. I deleted what I could find of Thunderbird and wanted to set up a new Thunderbird, but was unable to do so. I just see this part circle going around endlessly

Did you see the picture of the thumbnail of the set-up.exe? It looks strange, doesn't it? I tried to d/l a few times, and every time I get this thumbnail with half the image. When I want to install, I get this circle.

Are you downloading from https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/ ? Try downloading from this site. Once downloaded, click to install and it will automatically create an empty profile for you.

Thank you David for your patience.

I d/l from the link you sent me.

Again this half kind of thumbnail and the little blue worm turning in circles endlessly.

I have asked my son to come tomorrow and take a look. Not sure he can solve this problem. I think I'll buy myself a new computer. Maybe the problem is with this old laptop.

I surely hope that on a new pc this problem will not reappear! In time when I get the new computer, I will let you know if Thunderbird is working. Right now it is a truly mystifying! Best regards and thanks for trying to help me ~ Dorith

We hope all goes well. I am not very technical on the internals, but if yours is a very old computer, it may be 32-bit and you may be attempting to install 64-bit version. But that's just a wild guess...

Hi David,

I ordered a new laptop. Now hoping that everything will work as it should  :)

My son thinks there is a problem with Windows on his old laptop, which causes problems, not only with Thunderbird.

All the best and thanks again for your help ~ Dorith
