I am using the latest version of Thunderbird and have always wanted to remove the search bar. I tried draging and dropping it in to customize tool bar but did not go. I do not use it and feel it takes up un necessary space

Chosen solution

You are talking about the 'Global Search' which is enabled because you can see it on the 'Mail Toolbar'.

You can disable it to make it disappear.

  • 'Settings' > 'General'
  • Scroll to the bottom to locate 'Indexing' section.
  • Uncheck the 'Enable Global Search and Indexer' checkbox.

Once that checkbox is not selected, the 'Global Search' option will no longer display on the 'Mail Toolbar'.
