This HTML appears to work exactly the same as what you posted. Without all the useless styles that were not used. https://drive.google.com/file/d/18lEv06gxcOSNFVlTVB_T-aOwS0eaUKvk/view?usp=sharing

I just created several bullet lists with indentation with no problem. Please share more information on this.

Win 10. Latest update. Bullet lists and indentation stopped working on my computer. What else do you want to know? Please.

What version of TB are you using? Can you post a video of what it looks like in compose window as you type? Puzzling.

more options

Thunderbird v. 91.11.0 (64-bit)

I don't seem to be able to include a video, only jpegs. But here's what happens: I type some text, hit return, click the bullet or indent button above the composer window and nothing happens (normally it would move the cursor right, or if a bullet it would move the cursor right and add the bullet.

BTW, I just noticed that this happens on both my desktop and laptop computers.

The puzzle, as I see it, is that this is happening to your computers, but not elsewhere. Is it possible you may have other software running that is interfering with keystrokes, such as the tab key? Something seems to be doing this, and not Thunderbird.

OK, this is getting weird. The problem only occurs on 2 of the email accounts, I have 4 set up in TB. Bullets and indent work fine in the other 2. I've looked at the preference settings and can't seem to find one that might be responsible for the changed behavior. Is there a way to change back to the default settings for composition?

Do you have the toolbar with the bullet and number items showing? If not try holding shift and clicking the write button (that forces a switch between HTML and plain text for the write you open on the click. This is diagnostic not a fix)

Have you tried the Troubleshoot mode on the help menu? If not please do so now and see if that fixes it. Continue into troubleshoot mode when prompted.

more options

Yes the toolbar is visible. Composing in HTML is set as default. Shift while clicking Write gives me a compose window with no toolbar, so I'm assuming its plain text. Troubleshooting mode does not seem to make a difference, but I might be using it incorrectly.

Troubleshoot mode from the help menu and then continue into troubleshoot mode instead of resetting anything.

You appear to be using windows 10, I am using windows 10 and see not problem with bullets at all, just as David said so I am looking for something else to be the cause.

Finally getting back to this. No using TB in Troubleshoot mode does not solve the problem. Indents and bullet lists do not work.

I also tried deleting one of the accounts, then adding it back. No dice. Indent and bullets still do not work.

BUT, they do work in two non-Gmail accounts.

Strangely, until shortly before I asked the original question indents and bullets worked in all of my accounts.

How can it be that TB allows indents and bullets in some accounts but not others? HTML composing is on in all accounts.

Do you have the thunderHTMLedit addon? A screenshot of the HTML you get when you click indent may give some insight.

more options

I installed the thunderHTMLedit addon.

Interesting discovery: When I remove the HTML signature everything seems to work. Which explains why bullets worked in Yahoo, where I wasn't using a signature.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to make an HTML signature file that doesn't break the formatting options.

I used Libreoffice to export the signature in HTML, since I don't code.

Any ideas of how to make this work?

Thanks

My guess is there was something TB didn't like in your prior HTML signature. I have an HTML sig and bullets work fine. If you post the HTML code you were using, we may be able to assist.

That makes sense. Here's the code:

This looks like it is dependent on some libreoffice resources. Can you create a screenshot of what the sig looks like in compose window? This code seems heavy for a sig.

more options

Yeah that was my thought about way too much code too, but again I don't know HTML code, so...

Anyway the attached images show a newly opened compose window in (#1) Standard view, and (#2) HTML view.

Thanks

I simplified your code to this and tested it. Just place into the box for signature in Thunderbird and tick the box for HTML

It's not perfect, but I just wanted to give a sample. What you had was a monster.

I simplified it a bit. Not perfect, but something to work from. I posted this and lost it, so this response may appear twice.
