You can view and edit the passwords that Thunderbird is aware of by clicking tools>preferences>privacy&security and clicking 'saved passwords' and then clicking 'show passwords'. To change a password, highlight the line and right-click and a pane will open with option to edit password.

Passwords are created and changed between you and your mail provider. TB only applies the passwords that are set beforehand. If you've forgotten a password, contact your mail provider; most have an option on their website for this purpose. It's recommended to have a second email account registered with the provider to recover the password.

If you use Windows, you can right-click near top of screen and activate the menu bar. When that appears, you will see the Tools entry. i can't advise if you use MAC or Linux.
