How to change the short cut for "Paste as quotation"

more options

Since Dorando keyconfig :: Add-ons for Thunderbird does not work anymore I could not find a away to change the shortcut for "Paste as quotation" from the default "Ctrl + Shift + O" to "Ctrl+Shift+V". (For more shotcuts see Keyboard shortcuts - perform common Thunderbird tasks quickly). tbkeys-lite has been recommended as alternative (also on Mozilla Support: How to turn off or change the keyboard shortcuts. But the above mentioned link can not be changed to the obvious and in other email clients used Ctrl+Shift+V with TBkeys as mentioned on the github-page: Defining a key sequence (meaning multiple keys in succession) where the first key combination in the sequence is the same as a built-in shortcut (like ctrl+j ctrl+k) is not supported. Can anybody help me solve this dilemma? This would be great as I use the command many times a day.

Chosen solution

Thank you very much, @Matt, for reading my question and writing a feedback!

What puzzled me is why it was possible to change existing assignments in Thunderbird in the past, e.g. with Dorando keyconfig, but now not anymore. I looks like something fundamental was changed within TB.

I still had hope there is a possibility to change existing assignments. TB is open source and was known to be highly customizable, e.g with add-ons or edits of the configuration. Your answered triggered to read the sentence I quoted from Tbkeys again and I missed to quote the following sentence:"Single keys with modifiers may be mapped to override the built-in shortcuts but not sequences."

"Ctrl+Shift+V" is kind of a single key and this rekindled my hope.

A search let me to this note which gave me some cues: https://github.com/wshanks/tbkeys/issues/80#issuecomment-1068910342 And this post was the final help: https://muzso.hu/2007/05/28/how-to-make-paste-without-formatting-the-default-paste-operation-in-thunderbird#comment-836:

   Paste: cmd_paste
   Paste Without Formatting: cmd_pasteNoFormatting
   Paste As Quotation: cmd_pasteQuote

I added following to the second box in the settings of https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-GB/thunderbird/addon/tbkeys-lite/:

{

 "ctrl+shift+v": "cmd:cmd_pasteQuote"

}

And it works, hallelujah! I hope for good! Thanks again, Matt, for your answer as it triggered the right search.

I would be really grateful for any help in this! It is a daily issue for me. Hopefully someone will read this and can help!

The dilemma is you are trying to do what can't be done. You are getting no answers as you have the only addon that does key reassignments and nothing will work if you try an add onto existing assignments.

Once you get to say CTRL+A the application has selected all and exited the shortcut so you don't get a change to add to is an make it Ctrl+ ABCD because you never get to B let alone the rest of it.

How add-on can interact with the application has been entirely rewritten using the Chrome/ Firefox web extensions platform as a base into what has been called the mail extensions API. Associated with the change was the withdrawal of themes as something that was supported.

Thank you for the feedback. I was afraid more was changed, e.g. less possible customisation (incl. built-in short-cuts). But I am glad that this is still possible to a certain degree.
